TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Pointing to the federal government’s power to regulate immigration, a U.S. district judge Friday temporarily blocked a new Florida law aimed at cracking down on undocumented immigrants.

Miami-based Judge Kathleen Williams issued a 14-page decision granting a request for a temporary restraining order against the law, which the Republican-controlled Legislature and Gov. Ron DeSantis approved in February.

The law created state crimes for undocumented immigrants who enter or re-enter Florida. Williams issued the temporary restraining order two days after the Florida Immigrant Coalition, the Farmworker Association of Florida and two individual plaintiffs filed the lawsuit alleging, in part, that the law violates what is known as the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution because immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility.

Williams wrote that the plaintiffs “persuasively posit that SB 4-C (the law) unlawfully encroaches” on federal power to control immigration. She also cited details of the law, such as its requirements that people convicted of illegally entering the state face nine-month prison terms and longer sentences for subsequent convictions.

A temporary restraining order is generally limited to 14 days, and Williams scheduled an April 18 hearing on the plaintiffs’ request for a preliminary injunction, which could block the law while the case continues to play out.

Good, sucks to suck Floreda.

I also approve of their recent decision to replace migrant workers with children. This will ensure a strong work ethic, lots of sun, fresh air, and all the oranges they can take home after the shift ends. Not only that, it will ensure they can chip in and do a little bit of work in 12 hour shifts and provide for the family. Now they can buy some of those Takis Hot Chips they love so much and some of those purple sodas. Children should indeed work if they can. Not only that it will help keep them out of trouble and fill up that resume.

“Why do we say we need to import foreigners, even import them illegally, when you know, teenagers used to work at these resorts, college students should be able to do this stuff,” DeSantis said

“Yes, we had people that left because of those rules, but you’ve also been able to hire other people. And what’s wrong with expecting our young people to be working part-time now? I mean that’s how it used to be when I was growing up,” DeSantis said.

So true. Make them kids work.

Why are you giving a thumbs up to liberal judges as a MAGA? She was appointed by President Obama. Don’t you worship Trump LOL and gonna vote Republican for the rest of your life. This law was passed by Republican controlled legislature and Republican Governor DeSantis. You are confused.

i stand for whats the truth, NPC.

the truth is this power belongs to the federal government and a litigation like this was bound to happen per the laws of this country.

keep repeating NPC babble as you usually do.

They failed to pass the new child labor bill so now floreda is looking down the barrel of a labor crisis where it needs labor the most.

Sucks to suck, should've stopped and thought about who does the labor that's so critical to the state. Bad times ahead and all entirely self inflicted.

It's a free country and if college or high school kids do not wish to work on those industries, we cannot force them. Duh.

Aren't MAGA a free-market 'fixes everything' group?

The solution is at hand: legalize people with ties to the community and who are good, productive residents. Aka, essential workers.
