Hello fellow So Cal peeps, I have been a long timme member here, happy to say I'm now an LPR (Green Card Holder). Though in the times we are in I'm also taking precautions/knowing what to expect when I travel (doing research). I'm planning a trip to Legoland in Carlsbad, CA which involves a drive from San Diego, CA aiport. Are there any active CBP/Immigration checkpoints on route from San Diego, CA aiport to Carlsbad (Legoland)?

There is the San Clemente CBP station that is still north of Carlsbad, CA but wanted to just ask if anyone reading this may have any other insight.

Again just like know what to expect if I make this trip.

Thanks for reading/replying.

Hello dado123.

I live in SD County. No there is no CBP from the SD airport to Legoland; those two are very close. The check points are along the I-5 and I-15 freeways. Lately I have seen more patrols both border and highway along those stretches. However, why are you worried you are now an LPR. Come to sunny SD and enjoy it!

Thanks for the advice, just being overally cautious, I carry the Green Card all the time now when I travel, even while in the USA. I'll also be bringing kids, USA passports too (they are citizens).

Hi. I am actually in San Diego now and getting ready to drive back to LA. On the way down, I saw one CBP vehicle heading south a few lanes from me but nothing came of it… maybe they were just heading back to the border? I did drive by the airport and around the Gaslamp area, did not see one vehicle in actual San Diego.

The checkpoint on I5 North apparently serves mostly as offices and is rarely open but I will come back and follow up.

Sooo… I drove around the airport and through Carlsbad on the freeway. Nothing alarming, did not see CBP until I got closer to the checkpoint. I saw one CBP vehicle exiting the freeway before the checkpoint. The upside is that the checkpoint was CLOSED at 2pm, which is when I drove through it. The rest of the way was fine and now back in LA!
