Olson said he wanted to clear the air about what he calls misperceptions surrounding ICE’s operations — starting with the detainment of a Hanover Park police officer arrested Thursday. ICE says the officer is in the country illegally, despite receiving federal work authorization earlier this year.

"He overstayed his visa for nearly a decade, so he doesn't have any lawful status in the U.S.," Olson said. "USCIS did issue him a work authorization card, but he didn't have lawful status and the U.S. immigration law is very complex, so there's different ways someone might be here illegally and apply for some type of benefit and be authorized to work during that time frame, but still have no legal status."

So USCIS accepts whatever application and if it is valid issues EAD while the application is pending. ICE is like nope your pending application don't mean jack.

How is this allowed?!

My god.

I'm not really sure what this means for us. We also don't have lawful status, but we do have legal presence whatever that means. Another data point on why having lawyers and business majors run your country turns into disaster.

EAD is supposed to be tied to some sort of legality so I'm not sure how he was even issued one. You'd think having one would be proof of being here legally.

Lawers, making synonyms into technicalities so they an get even the most vile of offenders off Scott free. They also write all the tax codes with more holes than Swiss cheese and they also help the rich guys exploit all the loopholes to avoid paying taxes.

Business majors, cost optimizing things to the point of worthlessness and absurdity just to save a nickel. These are the same guys that stick it to people when it gets cold and they jack up the natural gas prices. Smh. And they call it induced demand to sanitize screwing people over.

Your average person's mind would blow a fuse if they actually read about all these arbitrary technicalities.

I think it is all fault of Biden-Venezuelans!

They all have EADs thru fake asylum or TPS

TPS gets canceled but they be carrying "valid" looking EAD but in fact, they are canceled.

So ICE is arresting all EADs.

It is faq'd.

The purpose of an EAD as always been to prove to employers that a non-citizen is legally authorized to work in the United States, but the EAD alone does not protect you from deportation. That’s where DACA comes in, where it allows prosecutorial discretion that provides temporary protection from deportation.

Think of DACA as the overall status and the EAD as the specific work permit card that comes with it. That’s why it’s important to also carry a copy of your DACA approval.

How could you be on DACA sicne 2012 or whatever and still not understand the difference between the I-821D (deferred action) and the I-765 (EAD)? We're supposed to be the brightest and smartest immigrants. They should implement an basic intelligence test every renewal to weed out Got_DACA.

If all else fails, blame Biden and other immigrants. LOL, making the job for Republicans so much easier.
When, it's 2028 and no Dreamer legislation has passed, they will be your scapegoat again.
Definitely don't blame Dementia Don, Noem, or Miller.

Difference between you and me is whenever there is a problem, I am the kind of person who examines myself (ourselves) first. You’re the kind of person who blames others first.

I take responsibility first

You blame others first.

That is why I am thriving and will thrive.

You will stay low IQ.

If this person passed his background check and has good moral character and an interest in protecting his community, the administration should look into starting a program to vet and register people like him for future status.

I think is also very different when one arrived in the U.S. as a child.

What chapter of the Project 2025 playbook can we find that directive in?
