The point of the You Tube is:

To reach (exposure) of the plight of children brought here as minors without their consent. They grow up like any normal American kid and then life stops after High School. And even if you do attend college, what comes after that. The point is we are fighting for status (documentation).

We are not trying to win academy film awards. The drama is the fact that a kid grows up like all his contemporaries and then suddenly is shut out. That is the message (drama). Mostly young people like you watch You Tube. With the right title and word of mouth we can elist many of them for this cause. Just give it a little time for all of us to think about it before moving forward. As you know its all non professional filming on You Tube.

The jobs you take because you are shut out are a distraction to what the target message is. Actually more drama in not telling what happens to you because of being without status.

" Normal" That's the problem. right there. Most of my friends didn't grow up normal. They grow up With a struggle: Language barriers, and racism. People will listen if we Show the truth!. We need to reach the audience where they would feel as if they were on our shoes. (joke: Not bad if we were to win an academy film, we would be popular ol But yeah let's hear more opinions from the DPA users. I would name the tittle " Looking Through my Eyes" The way i was going to think about making a youtube video with out faces is just making the camera as our eyes. The camera would just capture the Scenarios or What ever might be taped. This would just make it more realistic to the viewer and interactive.

example: A student looking at a college application and in the application sees that they ask for a valid ssn and he starts to realize that he's application will be rejected cuz of his status. another ideas is getting a drivers license.
i don't know guy...... i might just be thinking big... Forgiveme if i'm thinking outside the box.... or just not making sense of the subject.

I am sticking by my opinion of not alienating people that work in jobs that don't require college.
Construction, in particular, because
1) Many people in construction and similar trades make pretty good money, they do it all their lives and they aren't going to see it as some awful career
2) Many people in construction and similar trades feel they are being pushed out of their jobs by immigrants - so you really don't want to fuel that perception.
3) If this is for youtube (or any other form of mass media) you want the public to understand your plight and empathize with you. Implying that after you complete your education you may not get a fantastic job - but you still get an okay job - doesn't drive home that you are lost in the shadows of life.

I think it is really important to keep in mind that obtaining a college education, all by itself, isn't all that compelling to people - most people don't have one and they get along fine. You need to show what it is that makes your lives different and more difficult.

MrsMom has good points but what alternative occupation could there be to be used in the Youtube video?

That is it!!! Why do we need to have a job/occupation in the video? Its better to have a job than to not have one and sit at home or wherever..

My life is more difficult and different because I can't drive, I can't travel out of the country, I can't work legally, I can't own my own business, I don't have a ID to get into a Rated R movie.. etc etc. I feel like preaching to the choir right bout now..

We could have a calendar that keeps on ticking from entry to today/future in the video.. that would show what we are experiencing..

About the job thing....i don't think we need to "assign" a job...all we need to do is have a video of people graduating from college...after they get their diploma and shake hands with the principal, the student comes down from stage and gets cuffed by an ICE agent. I think that will drive the point home...

great idea TIKVA...your the spark we needed to push our efforts further.

(NOTE: A lot of the people on this forum are still young (teenagers)...they are enthusiastic yet tend not to get involved...you might end up doing the bulk of the work)

Hey TIKVA,
I really like your ideas with the Youtube video and the logo concept (other thread). I know several graphic designers that I may be able to convince to design this pro bono. PM me if you'd like me to pass the concept along to him.

I had always envisioned some sort of Youtube video getting released. I never thought about incorporating actual footage. Would it be simpler, but still as effective, to construct a slideshow to a powerful song? I had always envisioned slides of baby photos, milestones, etc - in the form of a photo essay. We don't need to use pictures of actual DREAMers either, if they are not comfortable donating them because it may make them identifiable.

What does everyone else think?

What ever... el puenteproject, in indiana, made an documentary about the struggles of Immigrants, including the dream act, and other. For everyone who lives in Indiana plz pm me if you would like to come and see it. It;s this Saturday. THe documentary was made in Indiana. OR IF YOU LIKE to join the group plz Pm me. I'll try to Open it to the public once it has been viewed in the Indiana Region I'll place a Url in here or in the off topic section.

It think that every state need's to make their own video. the more videos the more exposure. It will be very difficult to make a video as it right now. I propose that every state, volunteer, should make their video in a deadline. I don't know how long will it take but have a deadline and then Make a national awareness festival for the dream. Have anyone heard of Campecine?

Don't forget that you also need to choose what music to use. Music can make a video all the more compelling and emotionally charged...
