Hey thank you for the link, I am still in the process of building my portfolio, but we will see once that's done if I can spend some money there, do you have any tips for a beginner contractor like myself?

tilla_07 and pingpong abyss, seriously, contact the lady in the url I gave, she might take a while to respond but she does, and she knows her stuff, in my case, I have time still, but in this year or two I might still be in the USA I want to see if I can land some work, I'm not going to wait for the new administration to get their stuff right if I have the opportunity and eventually the money to get to Canada and finish my education.

I've never heard that undocumented status here is a problem for Canadian/Australian immigration.

If anyone can find anything that says so, I'd really like to see it because it would be something of a miracle.
I cannot find anything pertaining to Australia but Canada is a different story.

1. Where can my application for a Canada Immigration Visa be submitted?
As a general rule, you must submit your Canadian Immigration Application to the Canadian Immigration Visa Office outside Canada that is responsible for:

* The country where you are residing, if you have been lawfully admitted to that country for a period of at least one year, or
;
* The country of your nationality.

There are exceptions to this general rule. For example, if you are sponsoring, or being sponsored by, a close family member, the application starts off at an immigration centre located in Canada and then may or may not be forwarded to a Canadian Immigration Visa Office outside of Canada, depending on the circumstances.

If your destination is the Province of Quebec, you must submit an application for a Canada Immigration (Permanent Resident) Visa and an application for a Quebec Certificate of Selection to the Quebec Immigration Visa Office responsible for your region. This procedure is required because Quebec has exclusive jurisdiction to select immigrants who intend to reside in that province.

If you are applying under one of the Provincial Nomination Programs, you must initially submit your application to the nominating province.
Another problem that one can encounter in immigrating to Canada is the required Police certificate,I'm not sure how anyone would be able to explain that situation

Fair enough...but this sounds like a really general rule that a good lawyer can circumvent. It just deals with where to submit your application and not whether your status in the country of residence is a factor in the decision to grant an immigrant visa.

As for the police certificate, this info should give us some idea. The problem is that we have to obtain police clearances from state police authorities and a national certificate from the FBI. If anyone has got huge brass balls to walk into an FBI office and ask for a police certificate, then I'll pay your immigration fees.

I heard from my cousin who is currently residing in AUS that you need to be of legal status from the country you are emigrating/applying from. If you have to go through the interview process, then they would raise that issue. Many people who apply from US dont have to go through the interview process if their papers are legit and they have enough points. The point system is what matters the most for both CAN/AUS, but if you get a job offer from those countries, they make it easier. Look, I have had many ppl in my fam who have emigrateed to these countries. Oh, and for the FBI report, you need to have fingerprints and ss # and send it (mail it) to them for them to process. There is a link that explains the whole process.

I just applied to UBC law school ... Now just need to get in touch with a lawyer and get them to help me with my situation. I don't know how things would work out but its a backup plan. I ain't getting any younger, and after 3 degrees, I am getting incredibly bored and frustrated of odd jobs and janitorial.

At the same time, my other backup plan is to do an RN while being in law school here (since I am a grandfathered alien and also awaiting family reunification don't need to go home for a visa etc)... Yeah I don't have a life.

I just got an e-mail back from that lady:

Dear Reid,

All your concerns are valid and I sympathize with your situation.
Let's start with you. The first step is find out which University you want to
attend, register and wait for their approval, once you obtained the letter of
approval you can proceed with Immigration's paperwork. As a student you are
entitled to work off campus, nothing can stop you to look for a part-time job per
say and also run a work permit application at the same time.

Does anyone else have any other info? It seems to me like very little information for me asking her how much money she estimated I would need? Going in as a student is of course different than the work application, so do NOT confuse this with the points system, if I could go through the points system I would, but I cannot.

Also, if anyone else knows of any lawyers that answer questions for free or don't really charge much, please let me know.

Financing education in Canada can be tough. I have loads of experience in financing education as an international student.
It depends on what you are applying for. Look for schools that give merit-based scholarships to international students if that is an option. Also, if you can go to school part-time as an option cuz tuition costs can run high.
I think you are limited to 20 hours of work per week as a student? I don't know for sure, that's the DUMB rule they have in the USA for int. students ... They want us to pay loads here, be FULL-TIME and not be able to work much... :-/

^ Most of my jobs are word of mouth but I am sure you will be able to build your reputation somewhere. There are many other sites like that one. I dont have them off the top of my but just search on google.

Reid I am a year away from graduating from college, and I am planning on applying to a graduate program in Canada this spring. I only hope that when I file my application in my country Canadian officials don’t call me in for an interview. I have spoken to five Canadian lawyers and they make it sound so easy. They (lawyers) tell me that I can file my applications while in the states and just wait to get approve. I am currently searching for any type of scholarships to help ease the tuition burden. One of the lawyers also told me that scholarships look good when the time come to apply for a student visa. I wish you luck in what ever you decide to do.
