Hello everyone, Its very nice to see all the dream act students united here at this site.

I have a question regarding my studies & towards my degree, I hope someone can answer me & guide me through it. I am a college sophomore attending John Jay college in NYC. My major is bachelors in CIS but my degree requires an internship to complete graduation. Is it possible to get an internship without any working documents?? Or is it required to provide a SS & proof of your status in US?? Please any info. will be useful , As I am really worried about my future & my degree. I am a undocumented dream act student.

I am sure many of you have completed some degrees or are working toward your degree...It will be very helpful if I can get any info. from you guys. Thanks.

Must the internship be a paid one? I think the best bet is to approach a professor in the department who you know will understand your situation and try to brainstorm ideas.

As far as internships, it's possible to do it if you have connections. I almost got an internship when I worked as a volunteer ESL instructor. They liked me and they wanted to have me aboard.

No, it doesn't matter if the internship is a paid one or not, I am willing to do anything , I don't need money. I just want to be able to complete my degree requirement & get an internship somehow. I hope I get something as i am willing to work double hrs. without any money even in paid internship. I just have to show specific # of hours to get the credit.

I tried talking to someone at the office but when the lady heard I am undocumented she didn't entertained me much, I will try once again with someone nice.

Thanks for reply, Any more answers from more members will be helpful.

She said most of the agencies that take students require people who can really work after getting their degree. She insisted me to change my degree other than computers which doesnt require internship. I really wanna do this at any cost. Finally she said not to worry as I have 1 more year to go till I really get to internship step. But I really need to plan now , i dont want to get stuck after spending money on classes for my major then at last just not be able to graduate cuz I coudnt get a internship.

Start working on it now. Ask around.

^ cool buddy, what degree are you about to get? I mean like 2 year, 4 year. It seems money is not an issue for you. Why don't you keep going to school maybe get a Master's or take up another degree while something happens?

By the way, I have heard that getting Cisco certified will guarantee you a job (of course for when you can work)

If you don't already try getting an ITIN. That way at least you'll have a 9 digit number assigned to your name in the event you might need to someday put it on an internship application. (Just check if it's legal to do that beforehand)

I am studying for a Bachelor of science in computer information systems (4 years). Yes, you are right. I will definately keep continuing studying but to complete my current degree i require to have an internship. I hope dream act passes next time its up for a vote.
