Actually, you shouldn't understand or accept their position. Just because there is a loud and vocal minority, it doesn't necessarily mean they speak for all Americans. Most Americans support CIR and support the DREAM Act, despite our opposition's skewed polling results. It also doesn't mean that they are right.

Remember, they and their grandparents were once discriminated against when they arrived in this country. This is also a country built on immigrants. President James Madison said so himself.

The majority once supported slavery and the majority once propagated racism and discrimination against black people. It take s a greater struggle to correct these wrongs and the rejection of those wrong ideas is the first step in that struggle.
Please correct me if im wrong, as I am not a history buff, but I dont think there were or are any laws against racism or slavery though, so its not exactly the same. Technically, under current laws, we are considered illegal and thats it. I get what your saying though.
I always try to understand arguments, it's what i've learned from studying philosphy. I dont always accept them, just like nobody always should, like in this position for example. I know that not all, probably most americans are more sympathetic than the radical anti illegal immigrant people. But i am just recognizing their arguments as valid. That doesnt mean the are right just the same that it doesnt mean we are right either. That is why immigration is such a iffy topic. All i am saying is that even back then when all the irish and the asian immigrants and, well just about every nationality was being discriminated against in the past, the legal citizens of this country had the right to dislike illegal immigration then and illegal immigration now. Personally, yes i do think it's such a a-hole way of thinking, but they have the right and they make valid arguments.
As for slavery, yes it's not exactly the same thing, but i've found various similarities to our position in illegal immigration now. By far slavery created less rights and more demieaning behavior, but that basic ideals hold in our position...less basic rights than the average legal american, and demeaning behavior against us. All the people that call us criminals for example and speak down to some of us like if we are stupid, not me personally but i know people that have gone through that.

You're right. Philosophy does teach us that a conclusion is valid if the premises are true and their relation to the conclusion is logical. My point is that we cannot accept their positions as morally, ethically or intellectually correct. One we compromise and start to accept their arguments, its a slippery road to self-depreciation. I was getting such vibes from your introductory post. I apologize for that.

I'm Sorry that I hijacked your thread. Don't be my Reaper.

I'm in the same boat as you are. I'm 17, a junior in high school, and all my friends are out getting jobs, driving, going here and there, and enjoying their life, something I'm dying to do. All my friends ask me why I won't get started too, and just like you, I have to come up with excuses as to why I haven't. I hate feeling stuck like this. Like we cant go anywhere. Can't do anything but hide and try to survive. I really hope some day SOON some sort of law will pass. I don't want to go on like this.
