does marrying a permanent resident benefit me??

I have been together with my boyfriend for over 3 years, he knows that I am here illegally and is willing to help me by marrying me when he becomes a citizen. Unfortunetly that isnt for another couple of years. I was just wondering if anybody knew if I married him now if I could become a permanent resident too? or if there was any way for him to become a citizen sooner.... thanks

The process will be longer than if the sponsor is a U.S. citizen.

The only way (I think) for him to become a citizen without having to wait five years would be to join the military.

You should consult with an immigration attorney before doing anything.

yea it is longer...and it does take longer but i think once he becomes a citizens your bumped up immediately.

but for the 245i dont you have to have had the application in before a certain date?

thank you for all of your replies. I had an idea that it was possible for me to become a legal resident if he married me but wasn't sure. I came here in 1996 and entered with a visitor visa. I will definetely check with an immigration lawyer but money is always an issue so hopefully I can afford to start the process soon.
