^^^ I agree. it sucks not having anything and those of you who do are very lucky even if you can't technically work or vote, it's still better than nothing.

thanks J6- I appreciate your work...

I (like many of you) have the same concerns. I'm flying from Oakland Ca, to DC. I'm going to be using my freshly renewed Mexican Passport that has no visa. I don't have a dl, the only form of identification i have is my matricula and college id

this is the 3rd time i've posted this, but for those who have not read it yet, i flew back in 2003. just a month before we declared war in Iraq, i flew from San Jose International, got my ticket (online) showed my foreign passport and student ID, switched planes in Chicago (O'haire) then went to D.C. absolutely no problem when i returned home there wasn't a problem either. J6, is right, ticket agents and TSA/homeland security people can give you hell, (I should know, my brother works for as a TSA screener here in Las Vegas), so be polite and abide by all the rules, one thing that gets them pissed off is, asking stupid questions like, is water a liquid?, pointing this out to everyone right now, in order to not cause suspicion, abide by all the rules, that means when you check in and go through the x-rays, do not bring any liquid of any sort!!, (we all should know, you are only permitted a max of 3 oz. of liquid, and it has to be inside a ziploc bag)or else your only asking for attention, you want water that bad, you can get it, after that, at the duty free, yea it costs more money, but hey, i think me not getting caught is more important.

Here's a list of all the items you can and can't bring on an airplane. Thought it'd be helpful:

I had mine laminated and carry it with me just in case someone asks for my social and people mostly don't carry those around.

So from what I see here state IDs never pose a problem except that most of us don't have state IDs. AMTRAK is all nice except that a simple train ride from New York to Chicago is TWELVE HOURS and same price so I imagine most of us simply can't opt for something like that. Like Ianus said you shouldn't use this list as a complete green light but more like a way to relieve some anxiety if you're gonna do it anyway.

Citi, if you want to add a section just post it and I'll move it to the first post and credit your work. For those of you that are just posting cities I;m not putting that in the first post because most states and cities have multiple airports so one might be safer than the other. I imagine (maybe incorrectly) that LaGuardia in New York being primarily a US and Canada airport wouldn't have as much immigration presence as JFK.

Anyway, please keep posting since all this info is scattered all over the site and it's hard for people to find what they need.

Actually, if you look at your whole letter again, it asks you in fine print to check the information for accuracy. So technically, you could have wrong information and be using it.

As an afterthought, I would not be carrying even my SS registration card if I were you. I know it says carry at all times, but what if my wallet was ever stolen? Oh hell no...
