True BUT SS verifies your SSN, name, and date of birth info against the national database. I didn't fill in my middle name when signing up yet it's on my card because my SSN has it. I would say if people have nothing else it's worth having with you.

Has anybody had any problems at JFK in New York? I believe that's the biggest entry point to the country.

Another thing, can someone briefly describe how it all works. Do you just walk of the plane at these bigger airports?

As a side note we have to be the only group in the world that's discussing how to get OFF an aircraft rather than on. LOL

JFK has tons of security and it's hard to tell who is and isn't immigration related. Don't act weird, because they'll think you're a terrorist instead of a spazy undocumented immigrant and question you. Seriously there are armed men in fatigues walking around. It's hardcore. Getting off from what I remember, you don't need any ID. You just go claim your baggage. Maybe it's different for someone else but usually the only time I've had to show ID was heading towards my gate.

Back in the day (like 5 years ago) LAX was not recommended for immigrants because ICE supposedly liked to hang out there. I flew through there several times with no problem but then again I was a minor with an adult with a DL. If you pre-print your ticket, the only place you have to show id is when heading towards the gate (from what I remember). I've never tried it with a passport (mainly because I don't have one .

I know someone who had problems coming back from either Puerto Rico or the virgin islands, I can't remember which one. He eventually made it back but this was pre 9/11 and he admitted to smooth talking his way out of being questioned further. I do not recommend going to these places.

I mostly fly thru big airports (I have a DL) and only time they ask for ID is when I'm heading to the gate.

I haven't been to JFK, but I will be flying from there in about two weeks so I'll let you guys know how it went. As to how it all works:
The only time you have to show your ID is when your going through security at the gate when your departing. When you arrive, you don't have to show ID, all you do is get off the plane and get your bags.
BTW the reason I only show ID once at the security check (sometimes you also have to show when checking in) is because I always get E-tickets. When you use E-tickets you check in through a computer at the airport so the computer doesn't ask for ID LOL. I would recommend using E-tickets.

I flew on 2005 from Newark NJ to Miami without any problem, to check in I used my HS ID from 2004, buy they did not accept my HS ID but I have a Valid SSN so I showed my SSN and school ID I was able to pass threw security check point with out any problem, now I want to fly this year coming up, with my passaport and SSN since I dont have a license, not sure if they will take it, I don't want to risk my self. Will see !!!
