Yea, that's probably it.

I dont have a prima account, I just said that money market accounts usually come linked to prima accounts. I will look into that though. If there are going to be fees I will cancel that sh*t. I am going to get a secured credit card at least, so I can start building credit also...

So why not apply for real cards? Try out a few student cards as they don't expect you to have much of a history.

I will, as soon as I get sent a somewhat acceptable card offer. I havent gotten any for a while now. I used to get Capital One offer all the time and now I get zip. It should be easier to get a credit card as a student since banks and creditors expect your parents to bail you out should you find yourself up <expletive> creek without a paddle. And guess what? Thats what a lot of stupid parents do.

With the secured card, as you know, the amount of your deposit becomes your credit limit. I would rather do that and wait a year or whatever than have my parent co sign.

No need to have your parent co-sign, it's an option but not required. Student cards are all around easier to get than regular cards, chances are you'll just get a really really low limit for starters which after a few months of establishing yourself can be raised.

You are right though, a lot of parents do bail out their kids... but then again it's their fault for not teaching the kids to be responsible in the first place... problem probably goes much further than just poor financial skills. Anyhow, if anyone does get a co-sign on their first card remember to remove the person after six months to a year... last thing you want is that person to ruin your credit.

The card offers you get in the mail now are not directed towards you, those are just junk mail. Once you have some actual credit, some actual cards you'll see the nice offers start to come in.

Just some possible offers:

If you are under 18 and responsible you should check this one out (requires co-signer, not a good rate but good enough if you pay each and every month as you should be doing):

http://www.usbank.com/cgi_w/cfm/cred...adult_visa.cfm

Very good student card (0% for first six months and lots of ways to get ThankYou points, i.e. eating out, bookstore, getting good grades etc. -- you know all of the things students normally do.)

https://www.citicards.com/cards/acq/...&B=V&langId=EN

If anyone does the last one be sure to apply by clicking through the link on this page... as of now i think you get a $20 bonus for doing so (create an account there first and then click the referral link). You'll get the check in three or four weeks.
