^ Of course they could. Employees have (should anyway) to follow strict regulations though. But you never know who is listening in on the phone besides the person your talking to. Doing those types of transactions online with the right protection is the safest. Phone transactions are about as safe as email. Not very safe. I hope you don't also throw away papers with personal info like bank statements etc in the trash. Its not being paranoid, its being smart. I guess you just have to think like a thief or a hacker to know what can happen to you. But if you want to be careless with your info have at it.

P.S. No wonder so many people are bitching about identity theft. As long as your careless, thats what will happen.

^I used to work at Blockbuster Video about 6 years ago. Applications for membership [containing DL numbers, socials, and major credit card numbers] were kept in an unlocked cabinet in the employee bathroom for anyone to stash in the pockets and run. Information is never truly safe.

jessard: You should follow quaker's advice about your partner using an ITIN to build credit...

I think its terrible that people can't just let others live in peace.....I'm glad that another "legal" citizen is willing to help our cause, the more the better. We have to fight so that the DREAM Act is passed and so many people can live normal lives.

^ I know information is never truly safe, but if you expose it even more your setting yourself up for the worst. What were social security numbers doing in that cabinet anyway? Last time I checked you didnt need that on the application to rent videos. What the hell do they need it for? I wouldn't write it. As for credit cards, if your on top of you finances as you should be, you will notice any extra charges etc, and contact your credit card company right away.

Let me tell you a story. a few years ago, I was standing in line at a blockbuster and the person in front of me had forgot her card and was unable to rent a video. Well she shouted to the cashier, "Can I give you my social security number or something?" I thought to myself, damn, what a stupid woman.
