I read that going to puerto rico is just like going to hawaii...is this still true?

I have a valid driv lic and have been to hawaii many times no probs. Will this be similar going to PR? THanks.

Well, the commercials say "no passport required for USCs". If you have a valid DL, I don't see why there would be a problem...

I wouldn't try it.

I know someone who went there for vacation pre-9/11. He was stopped at the airport and they asked some questions but he smooth talked his way out of it. He had a valid DL. He's never returning back there because it was such a close call.

Hawaii isn't usually a problem with a valid DL but I would avoid Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands....I've never head of anyone trying Alaska

Can u elaborate on that...i'm not sure why he would be questioned for anything...i assume MOST usc do not bring their passports there anyway since it specifically states not required.

He's of Asian decent and the guy walked across half the airport just to question him. Maybe if you are Hispanic or white you can try it but they do profile people or did back then. If you're of African heritage I wouldn't try or they might think you're a Haitian trying to sneak in as well.

My best friend was in PR about 3 weeks ago. From what he told me, they are doing more and more random checks ex. pulling you from line and questioning you... where you from, are you a citizen, may i know your purpose of your trip, how long were you here....So i guess if you know english without accent, and are not anxious you are good.. But if you are going to shake like a leave, and stumble on english... you may be asked to step into a room for some extra talk..

^^It doesn't surprise me,I came through Puerto Rico twice in 93-94 when I was younger & CPB officers always gave me a hard time even though I was 11,lol.

Yes, i think so. Puerto Rico is a US territory, so i'm guessing all you need is a Valid US ID.
