The article also mentions he came in without inspection so the "immigration specialist" probably did an I-601 coupled with an I-485.It must have been really an "immigration specialist" since it is difficult to prove extreme hardship to a parent & probably more so for a step parent.

Anything is possible as I would have written off this Dreamer being able to return but the sky is limit so to speak & never give up hope is the moral of this story,in my book anyway. Some more good news is that USCIS is rehiring former employees yet again to see if they can get the Backlog down. That may help us with extra votes.

v I think that is the jealousy Africana was talking about.

I'm beginning to hate that article. They don't even mention DREAM and make it seem so easy to obtain a legal status.

Yeah, seriously. Didn't you know all we had to do was go see an immigration specialist?! Stupid us!

A. Are you undocumented?
B. Did you come here legally or illegally?

Well, never mind...It doesn't really matter. As the unmarried child of permanent residents, your visa preference category is 2B. Since you're from Mexico...well, read the visa bulletin and weep. They're currently processing applications from March of 1992. It would take 16 years for you to get your green card. Dream will pass first. Hell will probably freeze over first.

Talk to a lawyer. Figure out if you are grandfathered in under 245i.
If you are, then yes but it will take a loooooooooooong time.
Otherwise, we're hoping DREAM passes in 2009. Some overly optimistic people like to say 08 but I doubt it.

Yeah, unless you have 245(i), you can't fix your status here even if you wait the 16 years, because you entered illegally. They don't care who you are or how old you were when you came.

You can try talking to a congressmen. However, the only cases I've seen that were successful in that area were for people who were already under deportation orders, and even then you have to have really compelling circumstances to get full on permission to stay--otherwise, if you're lucky, you'd just get temporary permission like Juan Gomez.

Like Youguysareawesome said, Dream has the likeliest chance to get brought up in 2009, although we are pushing for it to happen in 2008, because for many people this is obviously something which can't wait. It was brought in October, but failed to get cloture, so they didn't debate it or actually vote on it. Stick around and check the forum often, since we're always posting updates, rumors, etc. If you have very little time, just sign up for Google Alerts with the keyword Dream Act or something. Quaker's right. You have no excuse not to know. Do your best to keep up and to help us pass this. It's more important than keeping up with American Idol.
