Flight to Los Angeles.

My marching band is going on a trip to Los Angeles.

I'm seventeen, and have a school ID. How are the customs officials there? Will the school ID suffice? Can I just claim that I don't have a driver's license yet? And if I do claim that, then what happens? Can they ask me for a Social Security Number?

Ugh, this is why I hate trips.

I'd recommend for u to pass this trip. They ask for any kind of ID that supposedly proves you are legal in this country, such as DL or a passport...dont think your school ID will do.

But i could be wrong.

If you're going with your school, I doubt they'll ask you for extra documents to show your legal status here.

When my brother went with his school, everyone passed the security checkpoints as a group, with the teachers ahead of everyone with their passes, the roster, etc.

Can you trust your marching band teacher? You might want to explain the situation to him/her first just so you can have some peace of mind at the airport and not appear so nervous.

See, I can trust my teacher, I just don't want her to know. What is the worst case scenario for what could happen?

^Meh, you don't really have to let her "know"; just tell her you're currently being processed for your GC and, because of that, you can't really get a state ID. I use that excuse all the time and people usually just roll their eyes and start talking about how horrible it is to make me wait that long without a proper ID, blah blah blah.

I mean, honestly, I don't see what could be done.

I'm seventeen years old. It isn't a requirement to have a driver's license, and Social Security Numbers are merely a de facto form of identification. Many American citizens refuse the Social Security service. I can't get in trouble for not having one.

And since I am with a group, I don't see the trouble.

^ It's all up to you if you want to risk it. I wouldn't risk it because some girl just got apprehended at JFK not too long ago. LA is a hotspot for immigration-related things, so I'm guessing LAX will have immigration officials prowling around. Maybe if you were going to Seattle or Chicago, it wouldn't be that risky.

My question is, what could they do to me?

Deport you

Don't think because you are a minor they can't deport you. Ask manuel basch or whatever his name is. He was arrested when he was around 17 and put in jail for deportation. Luckily for him, his congressman intervened.
