Hello, I'm new here...
Hello everyone, my name is Mauricio and I live in Los Angeles.
I joined the forum because I feel the need to get involved and do everything I can to help get this act. I read many of the threads here and I realized my story is very similar to some of yours. Well, my parents brought me to the U.S. from Mexico when I was about to turn 9 and I’ve been here ever since. I will graduate from high school in about 5 months and I will turn 18 this April 18. I have always been aware of my situation but I have somewhat ignored it, up until now that I realize I will have a hard time going to school, and even if I make it past college…what then? I won’t be able to get a job. I feel so bad because these past months my school has been very focused on getting students to apply for college, and teachers ask me things like “what schools have YOU applied to?” or they ask me about scholarships. I am also very involved in my school (making the school website, making/maintaining newspaper website, helping the IT department etc.) so teachers expect a lot from me, but I am ashamed to tell them about my situation. And I DID apply to schools (and I got accepted into one so far, cal state L.A.) but Im not sure how I will pay for it, since I do not qualify for FAFSA, so I will try to find scholarships that don’t ask for a SS.
Today I talked to the school’s new (and very helpful) college counselor and she gave me a lot of useful information that will hopefully help make things easier, like the AB-540 form.
Like I said, I KNOW my story probably sounds very similar to others here so I hope I didn’t bore you hehe.
I want to help out this group as much as I personally can. Unfortunately I cannot help out financially but I will look into the Taking Action forum and see what I can do.
I will try to spread the word because I know that there are many students in my school in the same situation. Well, thanks for listening.

I feel weird(in a GOOD way) to see that there are so many others in the same situation. Just a few hours ago I had just given up on things, there were a few tears here and there. But after talking to my counselor and reading a lot of posts here, I feel that there IS hope and that maybe things will change.
Like I said earlier, I will stay tuned to this forum and help whenever I can.
