Traveling

Hello,
This April I will be travelling with my son and my fiance to Texas. We live in Los Angeles, and we are going to visit my fiance's family. My concern is that I've heard that going through the border of each state there are immigration chaeckpoints. Does anyone know if this is true? What are they going to ask for? We will be travelling front Los Angeles and we will be taking the 10 W/B all the way to Texas, they live in a small border town. If anyone who had driven cross country could offer any advice that would be great.

There are check points, hopefully someone who has traveled that route can tell you.
Border towns are usually good places to avoid. Even if you make it in, you may not be able to leave once you get there.

Immigration checkpoints exist in towns, cities and state borders that are very close to the Southern border. Naturally, places far from the Southern border don't necessarily have immigration checkpoints because that is self-defeating. If an undocumented immigrant has made it that far, then the Border Patrol has obviously failed at their job.

You should really avoid border towns altogether. Even if your fiance is a U.S. citizen and you're not, an immigration/border patrol officer has every legal right to ask both of you to prove your immigration status. All you need for a bad day is an ambitious border patrol officer.

true, there are checkpoints in the south, cities close to the border. so you might want to stay north a bit. and out of those cities close to the border.what part of texas?. I would suggest, that from L.A. you cut through either phoenix or las vegas. i live in LV, so i know for a fact there are absoluely no checkpoints here, as well as phoenix, but it might be diff, i havent been there lately.

i agreed ED.. My friend is a Citizen who traveled to Texas last few months. and there had highway portal checked my friend.....so be careful.....Texas is really close to the border...so many ICE and Cop wil check your ID at the checkpoint~~~

To answer your questions, yes my fiance is a US Citizen, he's in the Marine Corps, his family lives in a small town about 2 hours South of El Paso, TX. He told me they usually dont check his veh, since his car has DOD stickers on it. However, we're both still kind of worried because like one of you mentioned we only need to have one overly ambitious border agent to ruin things. Is there any way to check online about immigration checkpoints? Maybe to find out where they are?

No, they BP can set up a check point almost anywhere and there is no way of knowing where they will be.
