It's an ID card issued to students. Many students who travel or study abroad obtain one becuase it can come in handy sometimes, and some people recognize it as a form of ID. You can get discounts and what not at certain places too. The most important thing about it is that it may serve as a form of ID which is what many of us need.

I know Amtrak has been allowing ICE to board their trains. I'm still planning on using Amtrak from NJ to Washington, D.C. --- since this train isn't within 100 miles of the border (where most of ICE checks were occuring) do you guys believe this is relatively safe?

I have a friend that goes between NY and DC for work all the time on the train. I'll ask her if she has ever seen ICE. She's an ex-dreamer so I'm sure if something like that was to happen she would remember.

There are definitely more inland checks going on at Amtrak and Greyhound, due to security concerns. They are not looking for undocumented students, however, inability to produce the right ID will get you noticed -- and not in a good way.

You are going to see enhanced scrutiny of students, because many of those who have been arrested for terrorist activities came here or are here on student visas.

Officially on the Amtrak website it says the ISIC card is just for a student discount, and you need another ID in addition to it -- but I suppose it is really up to whoever checks your ID what they are willing to accept.
