Maybe that's why many of us can't suck up and take the wall for extended daca, because it just is not how it should be playing out in this country in accordance with most peoples' beliefs. Also, an unequal exchange passing would subtlety change public perception about how future immigrants are looked at and treated in life and in politics. It would be good for us directly, but taking into account its impact, I believe that an unequal exchange is the morally wrong decision.
I completely agree - none of this is moral. In an ideal world, yes, everything is fair and just. But that's not the world we live in - in fact it's far from ideal. This is politics and power grab and it's harsh (look at the votes Thursday). Trump didn't get elected because he is kind and loving. It should not have played out this like this, but it did.

There will always be people who are not as kind and align with your/our values. We can sit around and arguing that it's not fair and pray that one day the world will be perfect. Well, it won't and it has never been. Or we can work with what we have and take small steps. I say this is one starting point.

I say keep public pressure high on these guys because let's get real, that's all they ever cared about. Pressure them enough, they will do what's political advantageous.

In the worst case you get to work, live, plan your future and freely travel without fear of deportation. In the best case, for those who believe democrats will rule the world in 2020, they will save us then. But let me remind folks who forget, they deprioritized us as soon as they gained control of the government. Not until 2012, right before a reelection, they did DACA, which was a 2 year renewal work permit.

I don't see a huge difference between a GC and a renewable work permit+travel. Maybe someone can explain? Maybe the fees? The point I made about getting married is IF you really care about citizenship. If you don't, then you don't need to readjust your status. In my view, 10-12 years path to citizenship has little value to fight for.
I don't care about citizenship at all but GC holds value. With a 3 year renewable permit, you're going to run into stupid nuances such trying to get a loans, government jobs, and etc...With a green card it's at least easier to explain ohh I'm a green card holder as to ohh I'm a undocumented immigrant who renews every 3 years. I personally don't like the idea of marrying for citizenship.

No way is he getting 25B for his useless wall in exchange for something we’ve already had and he took away in the first place! Are you kidding?!? Democrats would look like fools if they agree to something this stupid!

I don't want another DACA with a stupid advance parole which you need to make up some shitty reasons like my grandmother is dying. My grandmother is alive, so when the hell can I travel abroad? I can fake the hospital record from my grandmother's country, but how many times can I do this?

Jesus Christ, let's just do one thing: fuck DACA, fuck everything, and we will see what they do when all 800k of us expire in 2020. Don't even bother to think we will regain Senate and/or House. Fuck this administration. Someone go ahead and take Miller into Hell. I wish him will never see the light again. When none of us can work legally, we will storm in front of WH. 800K of us.

Well, they voted on the Grassley bill and it failed spectacularly. What I meant to say is that I’d rather have this than nothing at all, which is the only other option we have.

There no point in negotiating with them. The bridge act should be a freebie. Trump fucking insane if he thinks he can get 25B for a DACA extension. Can't wait to see his 2020 slogan: No Wall, DACA didn't pay for it yet.

It's better they negotiate with more time rather just settle for permanent DACA. One week of debate isn't much at all.

Worst case scenario we have 2 years with the renewals and they come up with a solution down the line.

I was still caught by surprise. The cowardice was fucking egregious. I know a few people with FWD who feel the same way. THEY GAVE UP ALL FUCKING LEVERAGE.

This debate also exposed a lot of the major orgs and their shitty tactics. Graham even called out UWD the day of the votes because UWD did not like any of the proposals. I swear those fuckers need to go down.

UWD balances out the right wing nut jobs.

I just don't like them when they do one of those stupid stunts like the one last September.
