My lawyer has a small meeting with an immigration officer today for the second time in total. Here's what my lawyer came back with:

"Just got back from the immigration office. The officer contacted the service center representative and was told that your case is being held up due to background checks that have not yet been completed. He had no further information to share with me, unfortunately."

This gives me some relief in knowing what's going on with it at least. Does anyone know if the background check is the last step or the first?

Also, does anyone know what the real deal is with receipt numbers? They seem all over the place but it sucks to literally see a bunch before and after me approved.

I'm probably in the same situation as you, did you happen to come here with a visa by any chance? Or maybe the more the paper trail the longer it will take.

where exactly can you find the tracking number to your EAD?.. i received an update this morning stating that my card is out for delivery but there's no sign of the tracking number anywhere on my case status.

@Laker24x

I actually have quite a unique situation. I came here legally with my sister in 1992 from the UK. We both did everything correctly as far as paperwork goes except we missed a deadline for filing my I-130 unfortunately. My sister JUST caught the date and was "grandfathered" in. She is now a permanent resident. One document screwed it all up for me unfortunately. This all happened many years ago when I was about 20 I think. I'm now 27 years old. I then "fell out of status" and got put into the same category as a complete illegal immigrant even though I came here legally.

To truly answer your question, I feel that either they just got to my case and they're doing a background check only now, or for some reason my check is just simply taking awhile. Who knows..I also think that Nebraska is just slow.

Then they might be checking past immigration cases. Several years ago my employer filed a I-140 petition for me but USCIS decided to deny it. I'm certainly no expert but I think little things like those can delay the processing of our cases.

I think, and one of the approved guys can correct me, that if you do get a massage with the tracking number, it would be after the UPS has pick up the package from USCSI office (or Card production office, which i think is in KY) to be delivered to you..

Correct after USPS has picked it up, then you can track it

Actually I have been wondering about that as well. I also came here legally in 1990 from Kenya, I had status until 2009, My dad did not filed me I-I30, when I was in status but it came through while I was out. Will turn 22 on December 26th, but I had a lot of paperwork because I have had 4 different visas before illegal status. Oh well, what can u do, we sit, we wait, we drink coffee, we sleep, and repeat until one day u get the mail or Text message.
