To answer your question, (anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), I believe the 6 months begins after the biometrics since that's when they begin the background check on you.

If not an offense listed above, is one for which the individual was sentenced to time in custody of more than 90 days. The sentence must involve time to be served in custody, and therefore does not include a suspended sentence.

You and I have almost the same timeline and "almost" the same story.

I also attended a Cal State and was pursuing a degree in Engineering but, unlike you, I was extremely discouraged when i realized that i couldnt even get an internship due to my immigration status and working in my selected field would be next to impossible. I ended up dropping out.

I have recently returned to school thanks to the opportunity/hope that DACA has provided me.
