yes it lasts a year. if your case takes longer than a year then you can request an extension.

So the green card doubles as your EAD?

God, I realize this is a stupid question, lol. I just never thought I would even be in this position for a very long time, so I never really thought about it.

yeah. your green card is proof you're allowed to legally work. so at your next job you only show your green card.

In addition, your unrestricted social security number and ID is usually sufficient also. It is why it is best to get one when you get your green card, so you don't have to always walk around with it.
