Well I live in Florida and I am almost about to complete my A.A. degree at a community college on out of state tuition. Now getting into a nursing program without a social is a bit complicated. And I have no way of finding a Job here without a social or should I say I don't know anyone who would offer me a job without Ssn. I'm going to have tO work to pay for nursing school cause my parents don't have money saved up since they paid over 1200 per class just for community college.

I sent mine on Novenber 9 and it is at California Service Center. I just got app transfer today as well as some receipt # around me. After checking this thread it look like transfer is actually a bad news bc everyone who got the transfer needed to wait for at least one month or so after the transfer

Wait for at least one month?? What are you referring to? No one that's had their application transferred has been approved yet, well so far no one from these forums has reported it yet.

Do some states not allow people to go to college without a social? Or are some people just not willing to work off the books jobs to pay for their schooling? I don't get it.

Here in FL, they used to give you a SS when you signed up for school and you were not here legally or considered an "out of state." The problem here is that if you want to go to school you have to pay out of state tuition which is 3-4 times higher than regular rates and you must sign up full time. They won't allow you to take one class at a time so you can at least be doing something. You can't apply for financial aid and if you were offered scholarships, a lot of them require you to have a legal status in order to claim them. Even some grants and loans require a SS so if you don't have one you can't even go that route.

I was never able to start school because I couldn't afford to pay full time out of state tuition. I have a SS # since I came to the US in 1990 and back then you were given one if you requested it. I was also awarded scholarships I was never able to claim. There was one that would give me the cost of instate and I would have had to pay the difference but it was still too much.

There's basically a bunch of reasons some of us haven't been able to go to school. Glad you were able to though! Congrats!

My application was transferred the 15th of February. About two hours ago my EAD was approved. This is my first time registered on this site, but I am very grateful for it because it contains a great amount of useful information. I wanted to post this because I have been checking almost everyday to see if anyone who got transferred actually got approved soon. Please be patient guys! I know the waiting is tough.

I sent my application on the 25th of September. USCIS received it on the 1st of October. I had my biometrics appointment for the 16th of November. I did not walk in because I did not believe it really matters. If you know you are good for it, then YOU ARE GOOD FOR IT! Best of luck to everyone!
