Yes, we will continue to work hard.

I agree that we should not be pleasing the anti-immigration crowd but remember that some provisions will definitely help on-the-fence senators make clear cut decisions. This is very common for every bill....the judiciary committee will hold public hearings etc and will make necessary changes and then passes it down to the house/senate.

Cut the bullshit, no matter what we put it or take out the anti immigration crowd is still not going to like it, THEY WANT US TO BE DEPORTED PERIOD! So it don't make sense changing it to their liking, cause they are not going to stop whining.

this isn't about pleasing anyone. this whole fight and us trying to expand our cause is so the "miss-informed" could get a better understanding. it is not to change the minds of those who hate us deep inside no matter what we say.

It is good for the "on-the-Fence" senators to maybe change their mind. remember senator Mcatskil? she would vote for it if her amendments are added. same thing may go for another senator who is on the fence.

we aren't in any position to bargain with anyone. they DON'T have to give us anything at all. we ask for too much and we're stuck for another 2 years. students like us are being deported everyday. we want this to be done well once and for all. if i work hard on this movement and i get deported tomorrow; none of you will remember me.

were not gonna gain anything by cherry picking what we wanna talk about. we have to cover all aspects, weather we like it or not. we demand things screaming as if anyone owes us anything; instead we should speak softly and carry a big stick.

and u cant say "oh to bring a family member its gonna take 10 years", they don't care if it takes 20 years; its still a possibility that it could happen. so in 20 years all 1 million of us are gonna sponsor X2 each? the result is still the same.

the ones on "the fence" are there for a reason. all we need is those senators; and were good to go.

every state you go to your gonna find enraged Americans, weather their senator supports or apposes the Dream Act or not. its up to the senators, they vote.

- There is no such thing as a "guaranteed passage" of this bill, regardless of whatever scrotum licking provisions are in place to please the opposition.

- Some might think that this is a bright, magical idea that no one's ever thought of, but I'm going to give the benefit of doubt to Senator Durbin and other supporters who know the game. Yes, they know more than us.

- We ARE in a position to barder. It's unfair, and it's bullshit, but that's just how it works in the ugly political process. It'd be stupid to start with a minimum provision legislation and then end up with a watered down bill that won't benefit ANY of us.

Our job is to get more senators to support us through activism, let them do their job with negotiations and decide what has the most chance of succeeding.

One thought on the in-state tuition, as is, the states are upto deciding residency requirements. Why go the extra length and ban the provision, when some people could face the risk of not qualifying for enough loans/work study, can't fullfill the education requirement, and end up getting screwed? That'd be pretty fuckin' stupid after all the hard fights we've been through supporting an education bill. *btw I have my 4 year degree so it won't affect me at all, but from others I've talked to, there's no point in making their life any harder, and it defeats the purpose of this bill.

The only time we should push for these last resort matters are if the bill fails once again in the current form, which is what we're trying to avoid in the first place.

So... final thought; I disagree.

Yes, we are not lobbyists...I know that none of the senators will come and read our points here...we can only speculate and ponder.

I agree with Alex. There are lots of compromises involved (in the Senate). Take, for example, the talk between Hutchinson and Durbin to make amendments. We will actually note more of these as the debate unfolds...

not only with senator Hutchinson, but if you go to the websites of those senators that are on the "fence" list, you would see statements they made on the last time they voted for Dream Act in 2007. senator Hutchinson's amendment was extreme, but other senators may offer something less controversial.

When you speculate or ponder over some subject...someone, like yourself, can argue/criticize a speculation that can lead to some good arguments...then we are having healthy/constructive arguments...yes ?

So can we delete this thread already? I really doubt Durbin will come in here all of the sudden and say "Why didn't I think of that shit?!"
