and what percent of us came here with inspection?... safe to assume that our parents brought us here. if you came with inspection, you can adjust to lawful permanent status after being 2 years with that USC. you don't pay any fines, once your motion is approved after the interview, your good to go.

if you entered without inspection, you have a 10 year ban from re-entry... assuming that you are already 18 and have been in the U.S out of status for a period of 1+ years.

This is from the press conference.

Quote:
Q)What is your strategy on immigration reform? Coming in the first year? Reach out to McCain?

Obama:"We reached out to McCain on a whole host of issues...I would love to partner with him and others." Cites procurement reform.

MORE: "We want to move this process," fix "broken immigration system." Says the U.S. needs to secure borders to win public's trust, and Napolitano's working on it. But: "Showing that there is a more thoughtful approach than just raids," like reviewing companies' immigration practices, is key. (8:47 p.m.)

"I see the process moving this first year." BUT THEN: "Obviously, I don't have control of the legislative calendar." (8:48 p.m.)

The whole point of the article & the information is if any of us truly want Dream act as a separate entity from the subject of a large immigration overhaul bill, education reform would be the perfect time to at least make an attempt. Why should the chances of Dream act passing be limited to CIR this fall when Education reform will be coming up during the next 100 days ?

This would be well before any major overhaul debate which can be contentious considering the 2006 & 2007 immigration debates when we can at least support Durbin in trying to attach Dream act to any major education reform bill ?

I already thank Ianus for the article but right now, it is official.

Speculation, speculation, lot's of play and no gain. Just a lot of conversation.

Who knows what is going on, I don't think even Durbin knows what is going to happen. He has an educated guess but not a written contract.

What can happen in the future? I dunno. Do I have control to change them? Not really.

The only power I have is to prepare myself to whatever happens. Whether is mobilizing for CIR/DA to make it possible this year, organized for probable bill pass this year, or preparing to leave the country if CIR/DA is not possible in the next two years.

I don't know your personal experiences, but I strongly believe that my options are not that different from yours. Thus, you can speculate but you can only work to pass dream or prepare to leave. That's that.

I agree, it seems that if we wait for CIR, its gonna take a long time; chances are being pushed until mid of next year. I don't see why they cant just go through with Dream as a standalone. Obama himself mentioned that "we should pass the Dream Act immediately"... the Dream wont affect any person that may benefit from CIR. plus its gonna serve as a test on how USCIS will be able to work with a bigger load of documents.

its only an estimated 1 million of us. the risks are less.

Relax guys...It is probably a good idea not to attach DA to the CIR anyways...If it gets delayed then this might not be a problem at all. Just hope it will get attached to the Education/Defense bill like last time....If that happens...lets just say it will most likely pass and will be the best thing ever. Cheers !
