So we need 60 in Senate and 218 in House for CIR?

I hope that bill doesnt pass. It's just gonna make the global warming problem worse. I am disappointed at Obama for pushing for such a regressive piece of legislation.

The bill is definitely not perfect, but it's a good first step in combating global warming. Al Gore and 22 major environmental groups including the WWF/World Wildlife Fund, NRDC, and the Union of Concerned Scientists wouldn't have supported the bill if it would make the problem worse. Again, don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Another avenue to tackle global warming is through a green transportation bill that Rep. Blumenauer is talking about. Transit funding formula equity for highways and mass transit is one aspect as well as cleaner automobile technology. Giving people more choices for their transportation needs is definitely a must in order to reduce the nation's carbon footprint and to give people increased transportation choice.

the bill sets targets that are too weak, especially in the short term, and sets about meeting those targets through Enron-style accounting methods. It gives new life to one of the primary sources of the problem that should be on its way out — coal — by giving it record subsidies.

oh and comproises were largely negotiated by Representative Rick Boucher (D-VA), who hails from a coal-mining district in Virginia and has been the recipient of generous coal company donations.

Here's what he had to say last month:

Quote:
“I am pleased to report that following six weeks of continuous and intensive negotiations with Chairman Waxman and Chairman Markey, I have now reached an agreement with them on the principles for greenhouse gas control legislation. … I have been working with Chairmen Waxman and Markey to advance the goals which I think are important to achieve in control legislation. These goals are the preservation of coal related jobs, the facilitation of growing coal production, and keeping electricity rates affordable in regions like Southwest Virginia where most of the electricity is coal fired.”
COAL IS GOOOD FOR THE ENVIROMENT, RITTTE?

This bill is not perfect, i agree. it's just a bunch of bullshit.

Also, this bill only creates the illusion of addressing the problem.

The way I see it, if it passes they can focus on the CIR/DA. It's kind of selfish but at least if the CIR goes through we'll have more of say in environmental issues.
