Well you can always use a credit card, but let me advise you...you will be paying until you die since of the high interest rates. (Unless you get a SMART loan later in life to have all your debts combined into one, or you can use the stacking method)

Yeah there is always that. I have no idea if I am applicable to open a credit card. Can you open a credit card without a SSN?

In your original post you mentioned that you would have to pay $14,000/year, yet you say you have a $18,500/year scholarship... Why would you need a loan then?

Probably living expenses.

probably the 14k is the remaining.

14k is really cheap for a good school. I myself got a 50k scholarship for a 28+k per year school, still have to pay 14.5k, plus other expenses ends up to about 15k per year.

its when they give you such a juicy scholarship that it becomes really hard to say not to them and makes you think about ways to attend.

the best I got was 9k from Chase, and about 1k from B of A, but credits would only be good to sort of buffer the cost, and when you know you will be able to pay for the cost afterwards.

I am in the process of applying to the US bank student loan as it is both private and can be done with a cosigner. So far it its in the reviewing process, they have accepted all the stuff that I supplied to them, it depends only depends (i hope) on whether they accept the cosigner's credit history for that loan.

here is the thread this is discussed:

good luck on your search for money, I hope you manage to fix the problem to allow you the benefit of that 74k scholarship

Thanks for your help guys. I really want to hear if that USBank loan works out for you. Anyways, I have 14k remaining. So the 18500 was credited but I still need to pay 14k.

I have applied for the CitiAssist Loan about two weeks ago, and as of right now, I am conditionally approved. I called to ask if illegal immigrants have any chances of getting the loan, and the customer representative said yes, as long as I provide I-20 documentation--which the school is sending as we speak.

The loan application states that applicants need the I-20 with SEVIS number, but I am sending my application and just my I-20 form for final approval, which the bank said was enough, since I/my co-signer have already been approved.

I will let you know if my application goes through, but that has been my experience with the bank so far. Sorry if it didn't help much.
