Also, you will need to pass the nclex exam even though you will not be given the license. Foreign nurses need to obtain a cgfns certificate.

well niether of my parents had Green card or citizen, nor do they now... but I know for a fact that my dad tried to get sponsored by a painting company and applied my family for 245i... which never worked out and it has been pending ever since. I just recently started realizing it as a possible option. I was like 11 or 12 at the time.

It looks like it's worth trying. I just hope the wait isn't too long because waiting jeopardizes my chance of immigrating to another country like new zealand as a nurse... I believe I can't immigrate to another country within a year since Korean army will not let me leave the country once I am past age 24, only 2 years left.

I was researching on 245i and found Prena's blog... (hope you don't mind me posting this)

it says she has 245i???? Then why can't she just get sponsored? She was under 21 years of age at the time right? How come she can't use her 245i...

my dad said he filed 245i and he's pending therefore I should be grandfathered under that pending application because I was 12 at the time, online lawyer's website seems to agree... I need to find a lawyer soon..

Getting sponsored is not as easy as you think, especially for Prerna who has a MA degrees in Poli Sci or something (and also myself with a Masters in Education). Read the following from an employer to get an idea of the process:

http://www.immigrate2us.net/forum/sh...ad.php?t=56349

Generally you work for a potential sponsor for some time, they get to know you and if they like you, they are likely to offer you sponsorship for Perm residency. Like the second post says on that page, employers like himself don't pick up any old Joes off the street to sponsor for a green card.

Same with me - I am under 245i, I'm geting a Masters in the Sciences, and all these companies come to my school with summer internships or co-ops, but you can only apply for them if you can work legally in the US (because they are all paid positions), which doesn't even allow for a chance for the employers to get to know me and possibly sponsor me.

right and that's what I was thinking... although nurses are in high demand, they have to sponsor me based on my certificate... I will pass NCLEX but have no license, no experience, and cannot work legally for the hospital. So they can sponsor me but there's no guarantee that I am good worker from their perspective... it will make things complicated..

yeah... my nursing degree is worthless without exp... no way I can get sponsored without at least one year of exp, I am screwed either way.

Well, I am sponsored by my parents. That's another 6-8 year process right now unless we win the pending aging-out lawsuit against ICE. Then, it is a matter of months.

In the meantime, I can't get married because I am gay. Duh.

The other option with a 245-I is the diversity visa lottery.

I can get jobs and I do get offers but employer sponsorship is a tougher issue. I have had people who are willing to do it for me. The paperwork requirements are ridiculous though and the company has the burden to proof that there weren't any other qualified citizen/legal resident applicants. We usually just pay me as an independent consultant. USCIS has been known to reject EB applications just because they can. And that puts you right into deportation. Maybe I'll try it next time since I no longer care much for living here.

6-8 years wow...

well I can't even get a sponsor without a license.... so 245i doesn't mean anything to me now. I realize even dreamers with 245i doesn't really help them.

245i is essential to those who entered without inspection.
