I have a Valid SSN that is not eligible for work and I am never able to get a CA DL... I have tried on many occasions and can not figure out how to get a DL or even an ID for that matter...

I live in California and have family in Oregon, So a couple years back I decided to go and get a license. Although it was a little easier because I have family there, the process was very time consuming. The good thing now is I was able to get a valid drivers license without a SS#, but it's going to expire pretty soon and no hope of being able to renew it since they already changed the laws!

I know from friends that you can get license in IL and TX if you have a Valid SS without legal status but they got theirs 2 yrs ago its still possible in IL from what my friend told me.

Without SS the only states that offer Licenses are WA,NM,HI

Utah has a Drivers Privilege card but invalid for Id purposes i/e boarding airplanes.

I heard that the real id act will be enforced in NM and WA by May and when that happens people will no longer be able to get licenses without ss#s. Is this true? I was planning on going there and getting my license in the summer.

Hm. I find this strange.

Quote:
your social security number, which is mandatory to help enforce child support laws. Your social security number will be verified but does not appear on your license.
That's what it states as one of the steps to getting a Washington State Drivers License on the official Washington DMV website.

I think you don't need one because my dad's friend got one without. Down here there are people have know somebody that knows somebody and you pay some money you get set up and everything you just need to buy the plane ticket.

When you apply, you’ll get a handout with instructions for completing the application process.
Within 2 weeks, we’ll send you a letter and form to request an appointment with us to review your documents.
Complete the form and send it back to us by mail or fax following the instructions on the form.
We’ll call you to schedule an appointment, and meet with you to verify your proof of Washington residence.

has anyone reading in copy gone through this process ^^^^, need your help guys!

Fellow dreamers, mods, you can delete if this is too much exposure, WE NEED TO REFRESH ALL THIS , HERE IS THE LOW DOWN ON MY EXPERIENCE THUS FAR;

I actually applied for my WA ID today, showed them my consular card, foreign passport, and proof of residence, which was a wells faro statement, they took a pic, and gave me a WA state dept, " qualifying for a WA drivers license, photo, etc,,,, application to obtain a WA Drivers License , so now they mail some paper in two weeks, I mail them back, and then they will call me to set up an appointment, do you know how extensive they 'proof your documents' because on this paper they say quote/unquote, at the appointment you will sign a supplemental application form, signing authorizes us to validate your WA residence address documents by contacting the organization that issued them, did you go through this ?

Can anyone provide some light as to how extensive the DMV proofs your documents ?

thanks for all your good comments !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
