If that is the case in renewing your Korean passport then I suggest you just wait until you can legally adjust your status, then you can try to renew. An immigration attorney can probably help you get it if there is such a policy that requires you to return to Korea. So you shouldn't worry about it until then.

ha im facing the same thing. i would have to go back to taiwan then automatically enrolled in army.
