For sure the process is getting repubs onboard, which Schumer is ostensibly working on... which means its up to us to pressure the SENATE since Pelosi says the House won't take it up til the Senate votes.

Ethically, morally, there isn't an adequate answer. Politically, she doesn't want to do it because although she might likely be able to win a vote, it would have to pass in the Senate too to become a law. Just the vote alone would be a negative factor in some close elections for some Dems in the House, and so, to protect them from taking that vote, she won't bring it to the floor unless the Senate will do it too. Also, because there are some elected who are not strong on CIR, but are amenable to or in favor of the DREAM, they want to keep it as a "bargaining chip" in CIR. (That's a quote from a house staffer during a lobbying visit.

That stuff about Pelosi is ridiculous. She just cares about the dems staying in power and not losing votes, but what's the use of staying in power if you don't do anything about it and don't try to make the progress you were elected to make?

Why don't they try to pass the DREAM Act now, together with something else to strengthen immigration laws to appease the Republicans???
Passing the DA would constitute as a victory and the Democrats would most likely stay in power thanks to the Latino community and the people who see the good it will bring... right?
Thus opening a door to pass CIR after elections.

I worry (and they should too) that CIR OR Dream might simply not stand a chance if the Republicans regain power after the election... then we're doomed...

Because most pro-immigration reform groups will not allow it. It is all or nothing for these groups. That is why our side keeps on losing and the anti-immigrant side keeps on winning .

Quote:
Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy said in an interview he does not believe the Brown election dooms the chances for immigration reform.

"There's not going to be a Democratic or a Republican immigration bill. It's got to be bipartisan," Leahy said.

But he added that an alternative might be to take up smaller immigration proposals rather than one big comprehensive bill. Measures that could be considered individually include the so-called AgJOBS bill, which would help the agriculture industry, and the EB-5 investors visa program, under which foreigners who invest at least $1 million into creating U.S. jobs can receive citizenship.
"But there are those who don't like that, of course, because they figure then you cherry pick and you don't have the incentive to push through a bigger one," Leahy added.

I hate it when morons who know nothing about politics talk shit about Pelosi.

Why in the world would she bring it up for a vote when the Senate refuses to discuss it? She would jeopardize/lose many of her caucus' vulnerable seats for what? So you could stop bitching about her?

Politics is the name of the game, idiots.

Ditto.. whats up with the pelosi bashing ?! Whats the point of taking a hard vote, twising arms and then see it drop dead in the senate ?!

Look, she fought tooth and nail for public option in health care, and the senate swatted it down like a newspaper on a fly.

Whats the point of passing something if its bound to fail ? Shes saying, that she has the votes to pass it in the house if senate can send her something they can agree on
