If a person chooses to be in the military it's because it's their personal choice! People make it seem like it will be SOOO beneficial to a person however it is the contrary. Once you're in the line of duty, you risk your life. You have to go through intensive boot camp to pass. Obviously, it's not for everyone!

RIDICULOUS!
Yeah, the boot camp is intense, but that because everyone who goes through it has to go through exactly that: Basic Combat Training. Its not for everyone but it doesn't have as big of a washout rate as some people think, the marine core, for example, has a 90% pass rate and they are America's "Few and Proud". Also, why does everyone seem to think that being in the military automatically means you will be in infantry or Explosives ordinance disposal? The military has a lot of jobs. Everyone receives the same basic training, but once you go into your MOS, or Job, i you go into advanced individualized training. There are a lot of jobs in the military that don't require you to be on the front lines. The Army, for example, has over 150 jobs. And the airforce has a lot of jobs where you can be here, in the states, during your entire enlistment behind a computer or desk. only 4% of the people in the airforce actually fly jets.

And I wasn't trying to make it seem like its for everyone, I'm simply trying to disprove the whole. "A lot of Latinos without a highschool diploma will join and have their blood spilled". No, just NO. They can't join if they can't prove they can commit to something as basic as school. and the opportunities for education are there FOR THOSE WHO SERVE AND WANT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE.

Is the military for everyone? No.

Can it be beneficial? Yes, no matter how you look at it the military can be beneficial, but thats not what its all about. I, personally, don't want to join the navy for all those reasons, like I said, I want to get my degree before I join (if the dream act passes). There are others who genuinely want to join and see the benefits as a plus. And if people hadn't risked their life hundreds of years ago there would be no America

Its a f**king pointless argument but the reality is there's tons of so called Progressive(Liberals) that don't like the DREAM Act because of the Military option and thats scary that not only we have to fight against the ultra-conservatives but now the ultra-liberals.

Here's my simple answer i give to anti-DREAM Act Military folks

Any form of legalization is vulnerable to Military recruitment whether its CIR or DREAM Act w/o military language yes even without military language DREAMers will have conditional legal status which would be enough to meet the requirements needed to join military. The detailed military language was only added to make it more patriotic and appealing to the Republicans so its pointless being against DREAM Act instead lets work after the DREAM Act passes to educate and work against military recruitment in schools and at same time respect those who want to join the military we are undocumented ..not stupid we know what we want and its unfair for people who have the privilege of having legal status to decide whats best for us.

I've already commented in previous posts on how bad ass our military is. Why didn't the petition capitalize Latin@s in the beginning? Grammatical error or some purposeful thing to make you think?

This article sounds more like a sneaky reverse-psychology type of anti immigrant sh** than anything else. and if its not it must be coming from someone whos completely out of touch with whats really going on in the minds of many young undocumented people... Most of us already want to join the military anyways and the other half are only in this country bc they want to be someone in the world and contnue their studies. And even if... what other route can u add to the plan? if not military or college what then? "oh yea lets make a path for those people who just want to work a 9-5 in some gas station" please come on. THE DREAM ACT IS PERFECT... DONT TOUCH IT JUST PASS IT!!!

I hope this doesn't gain attention. If the Senators even think about removing the military option the Dream Act will lose so many votes.

Please stop posting these regressive threads. Every time somebody does this sort of thing, I get more and more annoyed.

Here is a message for you radical leftist nuts that want to deep-six DREAM:

PEOPLE HERE WANT TO BE HERE LEGALLY! WE DON'T LIKE BEING IN THE SHADOWS AND DON'T APPRECIATE THAT YOU THINK WE SHOULD BE! WE ARE SICK OF THIS LIMBO AND LIVING LIKE THIS! IT IS BECAUSE OF FRINGE LEFTIES AND ANTICS LIKE THIS THAT CIR WAS SHOT DOWN IN BUSH'S ADMINISTRATION! DON'T SUPPORT THE PERMANENT ENSERFMENT OF DREAMerS BY POSTING REGRESSIVE ARTICLES ABOUT THE SUPPOSED MILITARISM OF THE DREAM ACT! MANY OF US WOULD JUMP AT THE CHANCE TO LEGALIZE BY JOINING THE ARMY! TAKE YOUR STUPID ANTI-DREAM ARTICLES ELSEWHERE! THIS IS A WEBSITE TO ADVOCATE FOR THE DREAM ACT, NOT TO TEAR IT DOWN!

I stand 100 % by this article..it is true and I dont really care if a bunch of people onthis forum bash it due to the fact that they are so misinformed about their situation. aside from that I also believe any person usc or not should not join the armed forces as their only purpose is to be lethal weapons that are then released into civilian populations, truly genocidal.... and on the real its probably not a good idea to spend your time being an agent of genocide.
