Your logic is flawed.

Black slaves were not citizens! They did not have any LEGAL rights as citizens. In that sense their conditions were very similar to what the undocumented population face today.

And please, do not use the word "ILLEGAL". Yes, I am calling you out! That word replaces human dignity with criminality. According to the existing law, undocumented presence within the borders of the United States is NOT a crime (I won't cite sources here; do your own damn research). Labeling someone who is not committing a crime can get you sued for libel under the Defamation, Libel and Slander Law.

I think you should spearhead our movement DA_User, with your optimism and your optimistically optimistical character!

I don't understand why you are so butt hurt on this one word?

Illegal, undocumented, non native american, UFO whatever you call yourself you are still illegal in the eyes of the people whether you like it or not. It's sad but it's the right term, changing it only fuels more hatred from the antis.

Learn how to cope from 1 simple word.

You were wrong in your initial argument which was based on equating potential DREAM Act beneficiaries with the mass crowd of undocumented people in this country..

This matters. A lot. I already explained how you were fundamentally wrong in my earlier response.

Jamesp has a valid point.

Additionally, I will take it one step further in chastising you by reminding you and others in our "camp" that those who oppose us very often do so on the misconstrued understanding of certain phrases or words.

Given the most recent example of the Arizona shooting of Congresswoman Gifford, you must have learned, or should have learned, that words do matter.

The electorate, who has more ability in convincing their elected officials to vote in a certain fashion than you or I, often takes a vehement position based merely on emotional rhetoric that they hear from friends or various news media sources.

Specifically, those who oppose the DREAM Act and all other forms of immigration legislation tend to get their basis for opposition from conservative right wing sources and pundits like those found on Fox News. Fox News maintains this demographic of viewership by using fear mongering and yellow journalism, which at its heart is founded upon misinterpretation of certain specific key words, like illegal.

For future note, when someone offers advice, as Jamesp and I have done, you should pause to reflect upon whether it is sound and justified, rather than retort with angry, defensive discourse.

I also agree with you on this one. Calling myself "undocumented" doesn't improve my chances nor gives me financial aid in college.

Geezus, no it doesn't, but look at the word "illegal," its offensive to be calling any human being "illegal." Why would you let others call you that, even worse, why would you label yourself as an "illegal." Do you not consider yourself worthy?
