Then the entire thing was dismissed - no booking, no fingerprints - but $2K in the hole. His fault though ... and he understands that.
what do you mean by "they book you"?

Check your id, fingerprint you, take picture of face and tatoos if you have them, run you through the system, go through your file, search you, and if you don't have a rap sheet they create a file for you so you officially have a record. That's booking.

I'm going to start driving with an international license very soon. I'm wondering what will happen if I get a ticket or have a car accident.

They may be stricter now, but I had been involved in a few accidents where the other person didn't have a license nor insurance. (Back then I still had a beautiful license that I could renew without any issues). They just got a ticket and who knows whether they showed up to court.

I'm not a lawyer but even with the stricter laws (unless you're in Arizona), I think your mom should go to court and pay the fine. City courts just want money pretty much and she may get lectured by the judge but I seriously doubt that she's going to contact immigration. If she doesn't go to court then a warrant will be out for her and then she could get arrested and once she's in jail then now days they probably will contact immigration. Don't ignore this.

I work for a traffic attorney (in a different state) but we handle these types of things for people all they time so # 1 they don't have to attend court, and #2 so that it doesn't affect them due to their status (or lack of ) so deffinitely an attorney is the best way to go. call around and look for the best price, explain to them her situation and find out if getting her a Withold of adjudication is a possibility or even a reduction of the charge. She may end up paying some fines but it will be worth it. they have payment plans and extentions to satisfy court costs and fines. she will be ok just get proper represntation

So I don't have to show up in court? Two years ago I got a ticket for speeding, at that time I still have a valid driver license. I went to the court and to enter the building, I have to show my driver license. If court is avoidable, that would be better.
