This Congress is really screwing over the people that voted for them, why don't they in addition to this Bill pass some type of an "Education Bill" as well, that will help Americans become more literate in the English language? I know so many Americans that have trouble reading, writing and understanding the English language overall, speaking English is just a small portion of understanding the English language. Americans really need to wake up and start paying more attention to some of these members of Congress that they have representing them, they are doing them no favors!

Like I was discussing with Ali about some of the tests that are required to immigrate to the first world. They give you tests that not even native speakers can pass.

These lawmakers are full of shit. Do you really think that these rednecks have any desire to become educated? They are a bunch of classless imbeciles!
I become enraged when I speak Spanish in public places and this morons become offended and tell me to speak English.

The politicians themselves are less educated than a lot of us. All you needed to get an A in college/high school was the Public Speaking class....

@JohannBernoulli1667: You mentioned valid points, this is nothing but a Bill formulated through prejudice, that some members of Congress hope to use in marginalizing and intimidating certain immigrant voters. You mean to tell me that the most pressing issue in the US is English not being the official language? lol, what a joke!

The Education system for American kids especially in public schools is a complete mess, we have so many kids dropping out, while some of those that graduate are practically illiterate and lack basic English language skills.

Kids in other countries are ahead of American kids, some come here as International students, get the best education here and excel while the American kids barely hold on to 2.0 GPAs throghout college, then return to their home countries and excel even more, and people wonder why many International students are not interested in staying here after graduation??!!!

Shameful!

Hispanics will soon become the majority: Source? I keep hearing this but I have never seen where it comes from.

Last source I recall is HS economics book. Painted us as the biggest minority in 25 yrs and majority in 50. SEems we jumped the gun on biggest minority by like 10 yrs.

I'm sure the census and/or demography paints a similar picture

English SHOULD be the official language for the reason it is easy to speak and learn. Spanish is harder (i dont think it's too hard and i'm taking Spanish classes in my High School). No body cares which language is beautiful or not, it depends on how easy it is to speak. As for Latinos taking over the US....i dont like that either (dont oppose it that much either). I'm not racist, but i hate it when i would have to talk to someone in a language that i am not fluent in as they are. The USA shouldn't be taken by a majority of any race. It is a melting pot, and let it stay that way. Dont cook that pot too high...or it'll explode.
