It says so on the guidelines and it was also mentioned in the conference call. Affidavits can be used for the purpose of supplemental evidence, in the event that you have solid proof for 2 or 3 of the five years and need something extra to fill in the gaps. And even in that case its good to have two affidavits (maybe from 2 separate members of your congregation) from different sources.

An affidavit alone can not be used as proof of continuous residence here for those 5 years. See if you can find medical records or anything else that you can attach to those affidavits.
SIGH...i guess i have to start requesting bank statements...i believe they said 3 or 4 per year should suffice right? The problem with that is that i only have statements for the past 4 years...i really dont have anything from 2007...like literally none. Again SIGH.

Well then there's your proof! Use what you have for the last 4 years and then you have that Affidavit from your church, maybe you can get another from a friend or another person and you're set. I wouldn't worry about it too much if you have all those statements.

I suggest you make a timeline. Then fill each month with one solid proof that you were here. Ex. Transcript should fill fall and spring months AND bank statements should fill gaps like summer and part of winter.

Hey, heres an excerpt that might lessen your worries:

Quote:
However, affidavits may be used to support meeting the following guidelines only if the documentary evidence available to you is insufficient or lacking:

A gap in the documentation demonstrating that you meet the five year continuous residence requirement; and
A shortcoming in documentation with respect to the brief, casual and innocent departures during the five years of required continuous presence.
So don't dismiss your church affidavit!

Good luck!

That paragraph is exactly what I said lol...to support a GAP not to support the entire five years. Don't be worried you have your statements, you're going to be fine, just combine them with your church affidavit

Why must ink be so expensive?! Anyway, thanks you guys. I probably won't do them at home.

I didn't think of this!!! That's a brilliant idea. Guess I know what I'm going to spending my day tomorrow doing..Haha. Thanks, so much!

And yeah, I'm only sending in the necessary products, but I heard you should make a binder with more documents that will support your case. That way, if i get interviewed and they're like "You don't have enough for blah blah blah" I can just take out my binder and slam on the desk and go BAM!

Okay, so I'm thinking way too hard about this whole situation, and it probably doesn't work that way. But I'm one of those people who feel needs to feel like doing more than necessary.

I wouldn't worry too much about having toooons of paperwork, like I do. It's really just to make myself feel better because I'm weird

Both my college transcript and HS transcript are sealed. I'm not going to open them, just in case they have to stay sealed. I would hate to have to order another hs transcript since they cost money

I bought a printer for $100 that was all-in-one (scanner, fax, copier). Whatever about printer ink. It will be well worth it in the end and everyone needs a printer.

I'm scanning all my documents this week and emailing them to my lawyer (if he requires) just to check up on things before the wave hits his office. I'm keeping that scanned file on a secure flash drive.

I'm making colored copies (of IDs, passports, etc) for the application.

As for documentation, I have to use a LOT of bank statements in order to prove continuous presence from June 2008 - June 2012, lol. I think I have two or three pages for every three months (Jan., April, July, October).

But I do wonder how they qualify a "significant gap" since I called the hotline and they mentioned that every three or four months is sufficient. It's a lot of paperwork to do all the years with my bank statements. I'm estimating it's about 3 per month = 36 pages in a year. I can do it, but I'm sure it's overkill.

Also, the amount of proof depends on the individual. If you are in college or in high school, you aren't going to need a shitload of bank statements because your transcripts will show that you attended school and classes.

If you are out of school and college, you will need to come up with all the extra documents PLUS college/HS stuff. That's where people are going to be different.
