How? I don't get it. There's a lot of misinformation going around. I remember before I graduated, my HS counselor made it sound like there was no way in hell I could get accepted anywhere but a CC because of my status.

Even if you make it into GMU, how are you two paying for it?

Of the 3 schools I applied to only JMU asked for a work permit. I applied for instate tuition as anyone else would with ODU and GMU and they gave it to me. I guess I should consider myself lucky. I do have a social security number I guess that helped.

As for paying for it I've brought in money from overseas, and had family members chip in. Also put down some of it myself.

JMU has such a beautiful campus, I've been there once.

Yes, I think having a SS# definitely helps.

I'm thinking of transferring to GMU but I doubt they will allow in-state. My main pick would be UVA but it's highly unlikely there.

I guess my main goal now is to move to MD but even then, I don't think I will be able to afford tuition.

I went to the one in Alexandria too. I don't think they care if you have an appointment or not...well, at least if you get in as soon as they open.

After I came my mother filed for refugee status for her an myself. While our case was pending we were both able to get socials and work permits. Our case was pending for over a decade until we were finally issued a voluntary departure order. That's when we lost status. We still kept our socials however.

[Edit] Some people who are overstays have socials btw

And yeah I do consider myself extremely blessed for getting instate. IDK what I would have done if I wasnt going to school.
