With a subway, expect it to cost you at least 80k-100k. And don't expect it to be #1 for too long in the future because at the rate it's growing, there'll be so many of them around (currently about 28,000 of them in the US, I believe) that you won't be getting much profit down the road (there'll be like another one a mile from yours).

I actually own a business. Quit successful business in NYC. It definitely helps to have a solid plan & know exactly what your getting yourself into, its not a walk in the park after all. I would also suggest you meet & network with "the right" people. It's common knowledge that having influential individuals associated with one business always helps.

Really? apps development? gurlfriend there are like 10year old children developing apps these days, not a big money maker. One moment you're in, & a few hours latter someone else has developed something better & you're out.

Whoever your friend is may have exaggerated the amount. Like I implied above, apps are expendable, in & the out, nothing more. You can make a couple hundred dollars from selling an app. So unless your the next steve jobs, then keep it moving.

And seriously, a Subway franchise??? gurl you need to aim alot higher. I admire your motivation, but seriously us dreamers are alot more valuable to this world & the economy. Think of all those middle easterners (not a racist comment), who own franchises. It's like the highlight of their lives. Do you really want to be stuck owning fast food the rest of your life? Dreamer, I would suggest coming up with a solid business plan, perhaps even in the food industry. Think big like maybe a five star restaurant? There's big money in that Here in NYC there are restaurants that charge several hundred dollars a plate.

The moral of my reply is simple. It's one thing to want & dream up your own business, and quit another to actually be able to succeed at such a task.

I want to flip homes in the future.....basically what I will do is start with run down houses and flip those to little private studios, also work my way to apartment buildings, stores, office space ect..... My BF is my partner and he works as a construction worker. We are working on a business plan to achieve our American dream.

Yo brotha man..My parents have been working in Subway from the minute we stepped in this country and as a result put me through a private college, accredited Accounting program in the heart of Long Island. I'm currently on my way to becoming a Certified Public Accountant. This is just one story. There are plenty of others on this forum where this comes from. Since you think everybody elses career plans aren't aiming high enough, why don't you shed light on your own plans and please explain why you think thats better. Poster Ways, I'm telling you to continue working on your apps! You don't need anybody to tell you what you can do or can't do. Most people who tell you you can't do something are only insecure about themselves. When I come home from work on weekends and have delivery pizza with my fam, it tastes much better than those several hundred dollar plates. To those striving to own franchises like Subway, don't listen to this guy, he is clearly talking from his back side. First of all, those middle easterners you talk off are actually Indians. Secondly there is plenty of opportunity to grow and network with franchises like this. Good luck and go for it!

Anything to do with the word franchise they require green card/permanent residence status or citizenship. I have seen the application forms and personally got in touch with a manager about this issue. it is what is...

Don't judge I would have like to own a:

motel- simple reason that i can build equity and kill two birds with one stone ( get a place to reside and a business)
subway- franchise issues
C-store- Beer/Liquor license restriction for EAD
Laundromat- sounds good but the initial investment is high and you get your profit if you do the maintenance yourself. I am still worried about my bachelor degree...focus in one thing at a time.

I'm sorry, my reply wasn't meant to offend or discourage anyone. My reply was meant to motivate-- perhaps inspire-- dreamers to do much more with there lives, to dream higher. I appreciate your story, but lets be serious, I'm sure you parents would have much rather been doing something greater than Subway. There's nothing wrong with lower income jobs, but if one can do better, than why not? Like yourself, I come from a very humble family. I was raised by a single mother who worked very hard to raise 4 children. Like many children out there, I would go to bed hungry on a regular basis, because my mother could not afford to feed me. I did have toys or a tv. It was thanks to my mothers hard work & selflessness, that I was able to attend one of the best private schools in the state. I obtained an education from a reputable school which opened many doors straight out of high school. Since then I have had many jobs with a corner offices and a view. I have done & reached heights that I otherwise wouldn't have, had I just settled for a service industry professions. I now own a marketing & advertising company here in Manhattan. Like I mentioned before, it's one of the best in the industry. I have been mentioned in various reputable publications, and have worked with a long list of well know companies. I live in a beautiful penthouse & live a very privileged life. I donate to many charitable causes, including charities that help undocumented people. So with that said, perhaps you should hold back your your rude critique of me. I'm not a "bad guy" for expecting more from my fellow dreamers. I realize that not everyone has the same opportunities that I do, but we've got to start some where and aim high. Dreamers need to know that there is hope.

I have the same mentality as LostInMyDream...some people aren't just as hungry for success as some. That doesn't mean that they are not hungry for a better future.
