I graduated already. I did receive instate (in my state, if you graduate from HS and go directly to a public college/university you automatically get instate) however that was all irrelevant because i had scholarships and money from the school that took care of my tuition (less the cost of living expenses which was fine because I lived at home)...and yes, the FAFSA was required for me to fill out for merit aid and scholarships regardless of if i was eligible or not.

**I should have clarified that when i meant swam across the gulf, i was referring to Cubans**

Haha okay. Thank you. I was just wondering if FAFSA still helped you receive other aids from the school or not. Thank you!

Well no it didnt actually. You see when USC's or LPR's apply for fafsa, they get a response back with something called an EFC (estimated Family contribution). That is used to determine how much aid they are eligible for, and if they can take out those low interest loans like Stafford or Perkins.

With us, at most a school will ask you to apply so they have it on file. Im not entirely sure what the point of this is to be honest with you. There is definitely something more to the story, perhaps it has something to do with schools boosting numbers, i dont know. But anyways, scholarship programs will often ask you to fill one out also. They send your scholarships checks usually directly to the financial aid office or bursars so it can be deducted from your tuition. Schools may have different policies though.

If you are a very good student, eligible for honors programs or merit scholarships...you can try explaining your situation and seeing if the school would be willing to tap into their funds to help support your education. Best of luck!

Thanks MD! I consider myself a very good student, so hopefully I could talk to the financial aids office of my future school about it.

I would like to clarify, we DO NOT qualify for FAFSA if we are DACA applicants.

If you try to send your application for FAFSA and for some reason you get funds as a result, it will be considered fraud and would be grounds for removal.

Right now a lot of people are not too sure what it means to be undocumented or to be DACA eligible, as such we do not qualify for an alien number since that is granted to people on a student visa not DACA application as was mentioned earlier.

However, some schools will required a FAFSA application be turned in, they will ask of this but you will turn it into the school, they will use the information that you supply to determine your need for need based and merit based aid within their university. Please make sure that they understand they are not to submit the FAFSA application. Turning in a FAFSA application to the school if they require it is perfectly fine, but do not turn in an application to the government address on the application.
