Yeah they make a copy for themselves, put in the system and if you ever want to change your status, I am pretty sure they will look at it to see if it corresponds with your new application. Make sure everything is constant

sorry to bring this up agian...but after talking to some friends two of them said that their lawyers made copies of all the paperwork and that they gave back the originals, they said that it was the lawyers job to make copies and give you back the originals...anybody that used lawyers know if this is true, or did you take copies to your lawyers?

sigh... okay

You keep all the originals, lawyers make copies of the originals, one copy for themselves and another to send to USCIS. You should get a copy of the filled-out application for yourself, one for your lawyer, and another for USCIS. It's really not that complicated.

Just don't make it complicated... It really doesn't matter who makes the copies.

i wastnt asking for who should make make the copies, i was asking for what did the lawyer did for you, if you took the originals to your lawyer did they make copies and give you back the originals or do they keep them till the process is done or give them right back to you? reason i ask is because i gave the lawyer the original paperwork but she never said anything bout giving me back the originals. it isn't that complicated!

Call your lawyer and ask for the originals. Your lawyer is providing you a service and you paid them for it, so you can make as many phone calls as you want.

A competent lawyer should have made copies, kept the originals and put them in your file (at their office). Maybe they are just waiting for you to call them to pick them up.

BTW, if it were me I would call the lawyer right away and ask for all of my originals back. They probably made a copy of them for their own file. I would rather have originals in my possession than risk the chance of them getting misplaced at their office, but that is just me. Hope it works out!

Used a lawyer. He kept originals until he was preparing the file. When the file was submitted, we just went back to get the originals. Just ask for them back, brah, won't be a problem.

I sent copies to my lawyer via e-mail. My representation is across the country so it was easier to do it this way, however I did have to physically mail them copies of certain documents (college diploma, birth certificate) because they would not scan properly on my home scanner. Had to take them to Staples to make properly sized (oversized) copies.
