I don't believe in labels - CS geek or other. But I do have a BA and an MS in CS from a top tier University. I don't claim to be a know it all in the Computer Science field. However, I am good at my concentrated field within CS.

Like 90% of DREAMers are CS majors. I'd say you're in good company.

I have a CS degree that I got in 2001. Haven't directly used it but every 4 years or so, I get false hope about a new law being passed or something so I force myself to become familiar with the latest platforms before getting depressed and going back to my regular work. .NET is good and I can ask my old buddies with questions. Android Programming is something anybody can do too...well at least the more basic stuff.

Labels are not a good thing though. Maybe you're good in CS but also can play sports. Maybe you like photography and play in a band.

lol well I guess it's been about 3 years since I got into this stuff so it's about time to fire up ye olde Visual Studio and see what's new in the world of software development. I hear printers are all the rage now. j/k

90%??? Lol where the hell did you pull that statistic from.

Anyways, I just finished my MS in CS, and I'll am assume you want advice on becoming a programmer.. Well here is my wisdom to you:

Learn a language really really good, and every aspect of it, probably try C++, to the point where you can pick up a new language and be able to do some solid stuff by just looking up syntax's.

This is probably the most important thing, you might've taken a Data Structures course, but anyways go back to it, learn that shit. And I mean really learn it, be able to implement those things and sorting algorithms from scratch (don't use libraries) and understand it!!!
Half the interview questions revolve around those!

Lastly, you have an EAD! Do a shit load of internships, do not.. and I repeat DO NOT graduate with a CS degree without experience. Even those supposed "Entry Level" jobs require experience.

Oh and one more last thing. Following these steps is all fine and dandy, but if you really wanna get that high paying job.. Nothing will substitude for having 'Connections'.

So get yourself out there and Good Luck.
