Congress acts on student loan debt

Senate votes to boost student aid

Both the House and Senate bills used the budget reconciliation process, and I surmised that its the appropriations bill because appropriations deals with the budget. S.1642 deals with reauthorizing the Higher Education Act.

i'm getting extremely confused here.
1)is bush gonna veto the education appropriations bill? (ie, the one that just passed this friday)?
2)also, did durbin try to introduce the dream act to the bill that passed on friday, but we missed it? how in the world could that have happened?

3)if the bill that passed on friday was the appropriations bill, then what does this next bill do? the one that the senate will debate this week?
4)and is it still a must pass (since it's not an appropriations bill)?

and could someone write down the bill numbers next to the bill names? to make all this clear

thanks

Right?
WTF?! lol Reading that gave me a headache.

Well, there is the 2008 Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Bill. I do know that the Higher Education Access Act and College Cost Reduction Act used the budget reconciliation process and funds an increase in Pell Grants as well as cutting subsidies to the lending industry.

Ok, I think alipac got us confused. They said this

Quote:
JUST GOT THIS FROM A FRIEND, !VERY RELIABLE SOURCE!!!!

"The Dream Act will be added to the Education Appropriation Bill and has 60 votes to pass. Will be pushed hard by Lugar, Hagel and Durbin. MUST BE READY FOR THIS!"

"They said it isn't going anywhere because of the Iraq war debate ( won't be coming up for vote) but they are pushing hard and think they have the votes to pass it on the Education Appropriation bill."
HR 2669 and the Higher Education Access Act were both budget reconciliation bills. S.1642 is a regular bill that reauthorizes the Higher Education Act. Neither of these bills are appropriation bills, and alipac was simply confused (and confused us in the process).

The Education appropriation bill is in the FY 2008 Labor-HHS- Education Appropriations bill.
