In a rapidly changing technological world, most professions that are available today will vanish in 30 years. I advice you all to read this excellent report from the National Intelligence Council, Global Trends 2030: Alternative Worlds before deciding what type of career you will commit yourself too.

Compared to a decade or two ago. Right now a bachelors degree is the equivalent of a high school diploma back then. The jobs that our teachers used to make fun of and ridicule as the kind of industries that you would get into if you failed high school not only actively attend college career fairs but they have the longest lines. It's getting really bad out there.

The only reason I have been able to find a job at all has been purely due to networking, I have yet to find something that uses my degree, but unless you have a near perfect GPA, if you do not have the experience on the field you will find it almost impossible to even land a warehouse job.

If any of you are still in college, look for internships ASAP, start networking and talking to people in your field or who might know people in your field. Become close friends to upper classmen that are about to graduate and hope that they land jobs in areas that interest you and that they are willing to vouch for you. With the large number of applicants and limited number of positions companies are valuing recommendations from within a lot more and even rewarding employees that refer people that get hired.

If you graduated already, either try to get into a graduate program, or start looking for ways to get experience. Start doing community service or working with organizations purely for the ability to network with and hopefully finding a job eventually.

Yeah if you studied some liberal arts program, if you guys want a secure guaranteed job, studied something that is NEEDED right now. Something in the STEM fields. Accounting is always good but focus on something around accounting like finance, if you guys need internships, go to random business, offer your accounting/finance/business management skills for FREE. Just go in there, ask if theyre willing to give you an intership for a few months and see how it goes from there. And yeah network like no tomorrow. But also again, study something that is in high rate of employment.

When I was done with school, I did not look for any internships, or even had a resume, recruited literally drove to my house and right away offer me a job. I am dead serious, the school I graduated at actually focuses on finding jobs for their graduates, so about 92% of the people who graduate find a job within six months or less at top tech firms. So look for schools who offer programs that help you find employment/internships and just don't throw you into the real world

You need to find that point where you earn a good wage, (BE realistic but don't be afraid to want more) and get a degree that in case you are deported., you leave x reason youre out of the country, you will find employment.

A buddy of mine finished his chemical engineer program, got deported to Mexico, works now at Pemex making good salary there. Loves it, says being deported was probably the best thing to happened to him. Wake up call really. (i can ask to share his story if you guys want)

Careerbuilder got me like 10 interviews, I showed up to 3 and I turned downed all but one.

"We need a business degree"
"You understand that you called me, right? And that if you wanted a business major you shouldn't have called me...."

I want a part time job at Nordstrom, the discounts would make me happy forever and a day.
