Your talking about the state university grant and that is what I got and yes it doesn't cover all of tuition. I had to pay 500 bucks which is better than paying all of the 3250 bucks.

It's called the state university grant which covers tuition but not health fees and other stupid fees. It is issued by the university itself.

What must one do to receive that university grant? i will be transferring next fall and all i had hopes for was the cal grant. So ab540 students are eligible for the university grant?

Yes this is the second semester I receive this grant. Just basically filled out the dream act application. I posted a link in a earlier reply to this thread. The financial aid office emailed me saying that I got approved for this grant and how much they were giving me. I didn't apply directly for the grant rather the university decided what I qualified for based on dream act application. You might quality for the cal grant because you are a transfer student.

went to the financial aid office today...turns out i wont need a loan, their student website is kinda confusing. they had me thinking i was going to need an $8000 loan a year. i just have to pay a couple hundred bucks each quarter, comes out to about the same amount i was paying at santa monica college each semester.

Wow thank you. I will defiantly be doing that once i go there. How much is CSULA without any aid a year? how much do you have to pay out of pocket after the Grant?

I really like how all of us here on this forum help one another in succeeding. thank you!

Here is the link to csula cost. I am not familiar wih the quarter system since my school is in the semester system. I am positive these are yearly costs and under tuition and mandatory fees my school only paid tuition but not the mandatory fees. My tuition and mandatory fees are about $3250/semester and they covered about $2750. Yeah no problem I like helping fellow dreamers.

Yeah the universities tend to put other costs aside from tuition and related fees like books, room and board, transportation fees and so and so into their costs. Well to me all I cared about was the tuition fee and finding the money to pay it.

im starting cal sate la in the fall so i went to talk to someone at the financial aid office to have them explain to me what cal state la grant that i received covered and here is how he broke it down to me:

undergraduate tuition for the fall (full time student) $2114.06
my school grant $1824
my out of pocket expense $290.06

i will have to pay the same amount($290) again for the winter and spring quarter.

but if i would of gotten the cal grant i would of gotten all my tuition & fees covered.

this is the page he should me
http://www.calstatela.edu/univ/sfins...all_2013.php#1

if i wouldn't of received any aid i would have to pay $6342.18 for the year- thats just for tuition and mandatory fees. i also sent in the ab540 paper so that helped me get charged in-state tuition instead of out-of-state tuition.

now im just hoping that my textbooks won't be too pricey.

That is great news! just having to pay around 300 instead of the 2000. The university grant is what im looking forward to getting when i transfer there next fall! So all you did was go into the fin. aid office and ask about the grant? is there a lot of paperwork you have to fill out?
