How about we rewrite DREAM Act.

How about we strip it down - and just leave behind the bare bones. Take out all language of eventual citizenship. (All I need is a few years to get on my feet, and then I'll disappear from America - like is wanted by so many) (I'm sure that's all you guys need as well. Just a chance to work. Then, we uphold our end of the deal (w.e. that may be - i.e.: a severely limited conditional residency period, then we high-tail it out of this country.)

When we rewrite it, we toss it over to Durbin, let him give it one last try....

Drastic, yes....

Thoughts?
This is true The part about wanting a chance to get an education and work!
And leave if they don't want out talent and skills its their loss, this country is going down the drain anyway

On one hand, I agree on the chain migration issue. However, I wonder if disallowing the parents to be adjusted would really change anything. It was never a realistic objection in the first place, considering that as the current system stands said parents wouldn't be here until they were elderly, and that's assuming they leave soon. I think that many of the people who objected to chain migration objected to you guys bringing ANYONE over, even if they had never stepped foot in the United States.

yours has the same, only except for chain migration, which i think is a very tough topic, democrats may not support it if you leave it out.

actually, i believe the dems would support it. dream act is an issue about not punishing kid's for their parent's crime. so it's silly if it allows us to petition our parents later on.

current dream does not require us to get a degree
current dream does not require us to pay a fine
current dream does not require community service plus either college or military (i.e. everyone has to do community service, no matter what, but that alone is not enough to get GC.)
current dream puts us in a fast track to green card

maybe i didn't understand your post, but those are relatively big difference imo.

let me add that i don't believe those changes alone would be enough to get the needed support. we'd either need to have some more drastic changes that most of us would not like. And/or we need to do something outside of amending the bill in order to get support some other way. I'm not sure what those ways are, but I do know that we have a lot of work to do to get dream passed.

let us not get lazy.
