Yeah, I miss Bill too: http://library.findlaw.com/1996/Dec/1/126303.html

oh wait, he's the asshole that signed that law into effect because he didn't have the guts to stand up to the republicans in congress. And now we're all stuck in this predicament thanks to him.

Yes yes.
Yes, I support her stand. Because I don't need a license when i'm gonna get fired from my job for not having a good or valid SS #.

she is for a CIR.

If there is a CIR then there is no need for DLs.

I am really upset about this. Everyone deserves to be identified at the least.

Sounds good?! How does that sound good?!

She is effectively saying to you, "I do not support making your life better." And your response is "Its OK, I like you anyway."?

You do realize that there was absolutely no valid reason to stop this from going through except to appease those people who hate us. And thats exactly what she is doing in that statement. Comperehensive immigration reform will happend god knows when. We have to live somehow today. This was a state action to fix something that the federal legislature is apparently unable to fix.

Its like saying, I'm not going to fix this part of the highway right now, because I want to fix the whole thing 20 years from now, in one blow. Well the problem is, by that point, it is out of hand. The state government was doing its job at the very least.

Notice how she is walking the line? Even in this issue, by not supporting driver licenses for undocumented people she is appeasing to OUR opposition by not making our lives any better. Evidently she is also able to convince some of you that she actually gives a damn about CIR (whatever that means by now). I am personally sick of them regurgitating the same thing over and over and over and not being firm on any pressing issue.

Nick, that's exactly what they were accused of in last night's debate. I saw most of it and I saw nothing but fluff and rhetoric.

Yet, if this is America, what can I expect of Mexico?

You guys have to understand her position in the context of the dynamics of her presidential campaign. Clinton is running a very strong and effective campaign. She is leading all candidates in fundraising, which is a critical determinant in the election. Additionally, not only does she have support from the majority of Democrats but she has the largest support from Independents and is gaining increasing support from moderate Republicans. These voters like her stand on the issues. She has displayed a singularly effective stance on the Iraq war by saying that she doesn't support the reasons for the war but is committed to ensure the future stability of Iraq. Her health care proposal, despite certain flaws, addresses some of the key factors in the health insurance crisis of 50 million Americans. No other candidate has proposed a different or any sort of health care plan.

What this means is that Clinton is more and more likely to win the Democratic nomination and ultimately the presidency. But this is contingent on the fact that she doesn't trip up on any issue or make some catastrophic campaign miscue in the last legs of the race. Illegal immigration is a serious issue in this country and like it or not, a lot of Americans don't support giving DLs to illegal immigrants. The driver's license is the quintessential identification document in America and for whatever reason, most of the public doesn't support giving it to illegal immigrants. Clinton has to ensure that her campaign doesn't stumble on this issue, which is why she has now proclaimed a singular and firm stance against this proposal.

Its sad to say but we can't expect purism on this issue. As much as I am for driver's licenses for people like us, the polls are not with us on the driver's license issue. I know this is our number 1 issue, but imagine that you're a political strategist, what would you do on this issue? Also, think of anti-death penalty and gay marriage advocates, they don't get politicians to support everything they want either.

The bedrock principle for us is a path to legalization in CIR and all the Democratic candidates (and Giuliani) supports that. For me, CIR is more important than DL's.

Clinton is an idiot, if people are gonna vote for her they might as well vote for a republican candidate. She has the same economic policy as Bush, so i really dont know how much "change" there's going to be if she gets elected. Also, Ralph Nader has said many times this year that if Clinton gets the democratic nomination he is going to run for president again.
