Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson announced that a new enrollment form for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program becomes available Thursday to allow DACA recipients to renew their deferrals for a period of two years.

Organizations including CHIRLA in Los Angeles will begin processing renewal applications on Friday. But they warn that applicants should beware of unscrupulous legal service providers.

The first DACA approvals will begin to expire in September 2014. It is still unknown what happens to a DACA recipient once a deferral expires. As of April 2014, over 500,000 individuals have received DACA.

This is certainly good news but we shouldn't get riled up with this too much as it was given that DACA will be renewed anyways.
