If you did not receive a notice about filing the I-130/I-485 then that lawyer never filed it. It only takes a couple days to receive the notice after sending out the application.

About renewing your EAD, YES, renew it. You have to give USCIS at least 120 days for renewal. You can never tell how long it will tell for them to process it. You don't want your EAD to lapse.

AND PLEASE GET A ANOTHER LAWYER !!

$4000 ? holy crap.

Legit lawyers only charge $1000-$1500 to file I-130/I-485/I-765 (3 applications)

You get a I-485 based EAD. You have to file 485/765 at the same time.

But in order for you to file 485/765 you must have a pending I-130 first.
