DACA was announced what in June and took effect on August? And it was 5 years so yeah I can see it 2005. The longer it takes them to announce this the more time people have. I wonder how a this gonna work with DACA renewals? Man USCIS is going to get super busy if this actually happens. And I can't wait to see the resistance from hostile states.

I was thinking at least 150 years.

Couldn't agree with you more.

Thankfully i have very solid proof of residency going all the way back to 2001. And yes, i think 10 years should be the bare minimum.

Regardless of what the requirements are, everyone needs to understand that it's inevitable some are going to be left out. I got left out of DACA for missing one of the requirements by some months, but you don't see me protesting about it and throwing a shit fit.

It's easy to joke about it but think about it. There are people who have been here for 20 years and have absolutely no way to be legalized . I don't want to just use myself as an example (29.25 years now) but this isn't and shouldn't be a work permit blow out. The idea is to provide relief to those who have all but run out of options and have "did their time" and stayed out of trouble. Is it fair to make it 5 years when others have waited for so long? How fair is it for someone who came here for a couple of years here, speaks no English, and has done nothing to be part of this country to get a work permit and a handshake?

Why not just make it 44 years while we're here. Might as well just make only people eligible for registry eligible.

I had to dim my expectations on widespread relief when I read that article about Luis Gutierrez redefining the next group of DREAMers aka parents of minor USCs. It became clear even then that everyone is not going to be helped by the EO.

That's why if in the end the requirements are only 10 years of continuous residence and no criminal background history, I count us lucky.

Maybe blanket 10 years with subgroups would make more sense.
I hope he revisits the enlistment path. Forreal.

For the love of god and all of humanity PLEASE shorten the visa waiting times. Think 10 years is too much try 25 years which is the current wait time for adult children from Mexico, albeit we are in the supposed "first" category in the visa system.
