Guys, Hispanics and generally all immigrants, especially first generation immigrants are culturally and morally aligned with the Republican party. The whole pro-gay, pro-abortion, liberal moral values doesn't go over too well with our parents and grandparents. First-gen immigrants, i.e. our parents are mostly very religious which plays into the Republican conservative fold. Bush won 40% of the Latino vote nationally, parlaying his conservative, religious credentials.

Cubans are exclusively Republican, at the very least, an overwhelming majority of Cubans vote Republicans. That is the bane of the Democratic party for years in Florida, how they can't attract the Cuban vote. Cubans are very supportive of Republican economic policies such as large tax cuts, minimal govt. interference in businesses and pro-businesses policies. Cubans place a significant value in business ownership. Also expat Cubans who hate Castro adore tough foreign policies as embodied by the Republicans as opposed to the Dems who favor reconciliation and diplomacy.

Latinos are disenfranchised with the Republican candidates this year because of the severe backlash and racist rhetoric that is dominating the debate over illegal immigration. Many Latinos are very concerned with the amount of racism present in this debate and they are very disappointed with the draconian positions of some of the Republican candidates.

Of course they are!

I mean, it's not like several American states were once part of Mexico, or that many Latino families have been in the country for hundreds of years...

Never!

We don't know. If the election has taught us anything, predictions usually fall flat. Romney was supposed to win Iowa. He lost. He was supposed to win New Hampshire, he lost. McCain was dead in South Caroline. He won. Huckabee was supposed to win S.C. with his religious credentials. He lost.

Hillary was supposed to win Iowa. She lost. She also lost the delegate count in Nevada. Her national lead was supposed to be insurmountable yet Obama has chipped into it steadily.

So ultimately we won't know till January 30.

cubans dont care about our struggle because the law already passed for them they are republicans because they want a president that will get cuba back for them, when in reality if cubans wanted fidel out he will be gone by now, we had a dictator in my country he lasted 30 years and then he was assasinated.I really dont like the special treatment cubans get and the way they turn their backs on their own people.

OK...here is my analysis:

The biggest voting bloc in South Florida is Miami and its immediate neighbors, comprising 5.5 million people. Miami is considered a gamma world capital, i.e. a large foreign-born population and the financial and business capital of Southeastern United States. It is also known as the Gateway to America for many Latin American corporations and conversely the Gateway to Latin America for many U.S. corporations. These corporations include AIG, American Airlines, Cisco, Disney, Exxon, FedEx, Kraft Foods, Microsoft, Oracle, SBC Communications, Sony, and Visa International.

Miami is overwhelmingly comprised of Latin Americans with the largest bloc being Cubans. This block also includes many Central Americans and South Americans.

So what does this mean?

Cubans exclusively vote Republican and love pro-war candidates who have tough foreign policy positions. This is indicative of their desire for the U.S. to take a tough position with Cuba. McCain's hawkish credentials and Giuliani's role in post 9/11 New York goes over very well with this population. On another note, Miami Latinos support conservative economic policies, less taxes, minimal governmental interference, trade subsidies etc. Romney's business background is a positive aspect for him.

On the other hand, Latinos are very religious and while this may not dominate their voting stances, Huckabee will indeed appeal to their religious and socially conservatives desires.

40% of the Republican voters in Florida are either war veterans or have strong ties to the military. There are 11 military bases in Florida. McCain is supposed to win strong support from this group.

In a nutshell, its difficult to tell but IMO, I think McCain will win this. On the other hand, many elected officials in Florida and some officials in Congress have said that Giuliani will win Florida.

I agree with you, but when it comes to religion, I don't think Huckabee is the sole beneficiary. Most Cubans and South Americans are Catholics and that benefits Giuliani, although I don't think they will put much emphasis on religion. Florida also has a large senior citizen population that retired from states up north like New York and New Jersey and Rudy is the guy that appeals to them the most.

However, South Floridians love their Representatives, Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Mario Diaz-Balart and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and they are all endorsing McCain.

If Romney becomes president, I'm leaving this country.

But then again, he does flip flop on many issues and immigration might be one of them when he's in the oval office. Who knows?!

But then again, America just isn't ready for a Mormon in the white house unless Romney plans on flip flopping and becomes an amish or something between now and Nov. 4th. Anything could happen!!

So all in all, I really don't think Romney is gonna be prez and so I'll be staying put.

well, there are statistics support that we are going into recession, there also have been reports suggest that it was a set up by Greenspan for Ben. America right now is looking for a scapegoat for all of this. Apparently this country isn't doing very well for two main reasons: 1 the war on Iraq. 2. Economy. They both have something to do with the republicans. So the chance for a rep. pred. is very rare in my opinion.
well I am just giving a rough direction of the election, I can't break into details about how Greenspan caused mortgage and credit problems. as this may take days to debate and trust me I'm definitely not trying to start a religion war.

just my 2 cents.
